dh loves the name felicity but i dislike this name. he likes it beacuse it's sweet ,feminine yet fun and grown up.dh insists he likes no other name . i dislike it because i find it to sickly sweet and a bit wishy washy .

i love the name cecily because it's sweet , feminine, yet grown up and serious. i have a list of other names i like and could compromise on but dh has vetoed them all. he dislikes it because it's too old fashioned and unusual

in reality they are both very similar names in terms of how they sound sound ,femininity etc

dh after initially insisting on felicity has now agreed i can call her cecily

however , i don't want , to railroad dh into a name he dislikes. i really want to find a compromise we can both love.

problem is dh will not come up with any suggestions and i have given up trying to find a compromise.

so do your best and find us the name of our dreams or at least a few suggestions i can put to dh

thanks mathanxiety what really annoys is the fact that he refuses to accept i do not like the name felicity irrational as that maybe to him and others . i think i also have an unfounded fear that if you call a child felicity she'll end up as the most miserable adult .

names are so personal what one person loves another dislikes etc but he cannot seem to understand this .

i have decided she will be called cecily unless he is prepared to discuss other options as i have always been prepared to compromise with him .he is the one who has been unwilling to discuus other options.

You need to sit him down and tell him he can't dig his heels in and refuse to listen to anything else. Just refuse to countenance Felicity and tell him it's not up for discussion, and if he doesn't like the sound of that, tell him you don't like being dictated to either. This requires a standoff. Don't budge.

Augusta is a truly horrible name imo (Augustus Gloop).

smilingserenely · 06/11/2010 16:03

GILLYBOAT i have tried giving him the name book and he won't even look at it never mind trying to find a compromise .

thell definitely thought verity would be a strong compromise name but he wouldn't consider it .

i'm really dithering at the moment.do i just give up and accept his choice ? felicity is such a happy name and been well received by most people but yet when i hear or say the name i really dislike it . should i just accept or keep insisting on something different .

my favourite is still cecily although ceceliaa nn cecily /celia would be an option .

felicity -cecily or felicity-cecilia would be tongue twisters and is really not an option but maybe it is the only way forward .

although there are at leaast a dozen names mentioned on here that i like more than the name felicity . he ,however, insists he likes none of them .

augusta we both sort of like . he likes it more than i do but i just don't think i'm brave enough .

MRSVWOOLF i really like cordelia but again it's not for dh

thell · 06/11/2010 11:23

oops.

thell · 06/11/2010 11:23

Anyone suggested Helena?
Cecilia a nice variation on Cecily.
I'm really surprised he doesn't like Verity!

Good luck x

Lots of repeats are coming now.
I would suggest giving your dh a baby names book and asking him to make a long list of names he does like.

You never know he might come up with something you could both love Smile.

smilingserenely · 04/11/2010 20:17

while the vogue names are lovely they seem either very unusual eg solange or very
popular either now or in the recent past eg angela or grace

really looking for something unusual ie not popular but not weird .

daria lovely have considered dara but dh thinks its too harsh

might just give in to the name felicity and then try to persuade him that we should really have another dc and i'll name him or her . that'll probably be enough to persuade him that cecily is the right name after all.

Obviously if you don't like felicity do not choose it, but just to give you a different nn idea, my youngest dd is felicity and dd2 calls her licy pronounced lissy.
Also in regards to the ballerina image, I was best friends with a felicity in university, she was studying Astrophysics and her favourite sport was rock climbing... so :)

But good luck anyway, name choosing can be tricky!

smilingserenely · 04/11/2010 07:53

martha ,agatha are on my list and i definitely mentioned consatance and otilie but yet again old stick in the mud says no.

can't use tabitha as we already have one

love odette and delphine will propose them to he who must be pleased

love lilac but no way will dh

think i may insist on cecily but beginning to seriously consider augusta .
