DC3 is due in Feb. We have 2 DSs and no idea what sex number three is. As the time gets closer I'll prob be on here a lot as quite stuck with boys names, but that's another thread!

I've always loved the name Louisa, but don't really like the nickname Lou (which I'm sure is an unavoidable nickname).

Any inspired nn ideas for Louisa would be great!

diddl - As an adult I get called 'Lou'. I don't like it. My Mum calls me it and one of my aunts. I've asked them not to, but they continue to do it, they say I'm being precious. I never introduced myself as 'Lou' always 'Louisa' but still people insist on being over-familiar.

I guess I could correct everyone who does it, or refuse to answer to anything other than my full name, but how grouchy would that make me sound?

Also, I spent my whole school life being called 'Louise' by teachers. That's pretty annoying - but that was the 80s and perhaps there are more Louisas about now, so the same thing may not happen these days.

It is a great name though - and despite never being able to get anthing in gift shops with my name on it as a child, I've never wanted to be called anything else. I like the fact that there aren't so many of us about.

In Belgium Siska is a very popular nickname for Louisa. I knew a very old lady called Whisky/Whisker short for Louisa!

If you don´t like Lou, then don´t use it.

Call your daughter Louisa & stick to it.

Ours never had nns until schoolfriends used them.

We still don´t.

My name is Louisa.

I'm known as Lulu, Lou (which I really don't like - specially when called it by people who don't know me that well) have been known as Lucy, Lucia, Loochy Poochy (!?)and Weasel (exclusively my Dad). Most children tend to call me Weeza before they can pronounce it properly.

But I grew up spending a lot of time with my Grandma who was rubbish at remembering names, so I got used to answering to anything (including 'Norman'!!).

I love the name Louisa and if I had a dd Louisa, I'd always call her Louisa. I wouldn't bother with a nickname.
