Percy, Cuthbert or Coriolanus?

DH and I can't decide. We are thinking of Coriolanus Percy.

Don't want a name that there are loads of in the same school/nursery. Would prefer to be the only one. Needs to be reasonably traditional/not made up (DH's criteria).

Cross post. I was talking about Boris obviously.

Never thought of the Titus problem. OMG! Will strike that one off the list and raise Humphrey to the top.

First names
Humphrey, Algernon, Perseus, Horace

Middles
Cuthbert, Percival, Galahad

My new middle names sound so ROMANTIC

Me too (sigh). Men!! It's not like I'll ever get to meet the real one. Why not have my own?

Percy (willy) or Anus?

Titus (tight arse)

Tough one there.

I'd go for Humphrey.

Gory09 · 31/10/2010 07:40

When I saw Percy and Coriolanus I though you were trying to find seasoning herbs related namesBlush

Love Boris though!

pumpkinpoppet · 31/10/2010 07:37

Oh NIGHTMARE - I can't have a DS name that means penis. Do you think it's only old men that would think that? It's just that there are almost no old fashioned names that aren't over-used. Apart from Reginald - and that just makes me think of the Kray twins.

Could he just be Perce short for Percival instead? Or would it be safer to stick with Perseus? Maybe only as MN? I'm stuck now.

First names:
Humphrey, Algernon, Perseus, Horace

Middles
Cuthbert, Percival, Titus

Think we realise we need to put aside Coriolanus. Which is such a shame. I did have Boris on my list but Dh has vetoed as he knows I have a bit of a thing for the London one... Meany

Egbert is a bit silly. But I like Galahad. Dh not sure. Says I can choose though. Except Boris. Which is why Horace seems like a compromise and will probably be in there somewhere..

Hideous. As one poster mentioned, your child will have a "kick me" sign pinned to his metaphorical back and will spend his secondary school years getting bog-washed.

This thread is hilarious Grin

Just call him Caesar, then he can be known as a small can of dog food for small, yappy-type dogs

notagrannyyet · 31/10/2010 07:18

All 3 are awful.

My great uncle used to say 'I'm off to point Percy at the porcelain', when he was going for a wee.

If this is for real please don't do it!

Tortington · 31/10/2010 02:03

u avin a giraffe op?

pilotinspector · 31/10/2010 01:37

you are taking the piss surely?...Grin

BelligerentGhoul · 31/10/2010 00:34

Love Hector and Thaddeus too.

In fact, my dad still laughs about the fact that as a teenager, I said my son would be called Thaddeus.

I have two dds but still love Thaddeus!

pumpkinpoppet · 31/10/2010 00:33

A touch pretentious?

OP posts:
BelligerentGhoul · 31/10/2010 00:33

Love Horace.

LoopyLoupGarou · 31/10/2010 00:30

So this is a joke then.

Ha ha.

I have another for you: Cecil Hector Thaddeus.

pumpkinpoppet · 31/10/2010 00:23

Do you think Marmaduke is a bit made up? I can only think of cartoon characters with it. Can I get away with Horatio? thought Horace was more sensible??

Algernon is great. Thanks. Feels like a mouthful with Perseus and Percival though. Algernon Horace Titus has a ring? Dh thinks he will be Algy (is that a pond thing?)

Everyone here is so creative. Much better ideas than ours.

I hear you but I actually don't know anyone called Enid.

Names like George and Arthur and Frederick and Edward and Stanley were actually very popular about 100 yrs ago (look on the WWI memorials). So although they have been rare for years, they are coming back, not coming from nowhere.

But I don't think Horace and Titus and Peregrine and Humphrey were ever big hits.

pumpkinpoppet · 31/10/2010 00:19

The thing is - are't all the old fashioned names coming back? You might think they are odd now, but won't our children take them as normal? Like Enid, Reginald and Pearl and all those??

OP posts:
LoopyLoupGarou · 31/10/2010 00:18

Geoffrey?
Oooh I like Marmaduke
Horatio?

tbh if his first name is Percival it doens't matter what his middle name is.

Make it James. Or Thomas.

Seriously, OP, are you serious? We all need to know.

controlfreakery · 31/10/2010 00:15

oh definitely titus as a first name.... so his friends can call him tits as a nn.
