Robin - boy

Robyn - girl

I've known more than one girl Robin, but never a boy Robyn. I think either is fine for girls, I only for boys. It's a great name!

bowbluebell · 29/10/2010 11:37

I know a girl Robin too, but like Bue, have never seen a boy Robyn.

Lovely name, prevented from using it in our family due to 'black sheep' issues :(

Mrsmackie · 29/10/2010 14:00

I would say definitely Robin = boy and Robyn = girl. Bit strange if anything other than that (imo)

Ineedsomesleep · 29/10/2010 14:01

I know a girl named Robin too, think its lovely.

Yellowflowers · 29/10/2010 14:26

I think in America it is Robin for girls but here it is Robyn for girls and Robin for boys.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 29/10/2010 14:27

In my horribly old fashioned world, Robin is a boy's name. A lovely boys name though.

MuffinMouse · 29/10/2010 14:28

Definitely Robin (boy) Robyn (girl). I'm not a fan of unisex names though. Unisex for girls is massively popular in the US though.

brockleyD · 29/10/2010 17:52

Robin us a unisex name! I am thinking of it too and I prefer with a i for a girl! x

thefurryone · 29/10/2010 17:56

Thinking from the point of view of the child if it's a girl it may be better to use Robyn rather than Robin otherwise people just seeing her name written down before they meet her will assume she's a boy. Maybe not a big deal but it could get annoying.

gaelicsheep · 29/10/2010 21:05

Well the decision was made four months ago and I don't regret it Smile I hate Robyn - why spoil a perfectly good word? I agree that Robin is unisex!

I think we may have set a trend judging from a couple of recent threads. Grin But yes people do assume there's a y which is a tad annoying, and old fashioned. Or assume she's a girly looking boy in girls' clothes Hmm. Still it's a good conversation starter. And it's not nearly so annoying as the constant mis-spellings of my son's perfectly normal name!
