Ah, but OP are you in possession of an "aïeul" sufficiently "prestigieux"?

(I shall have to encourage my own offspring to go easy on the names, having just discovered that they are the descendants of a Lincolnshire ratcatcher.)

Pasiphae · 22/10/2010 13:39

Eponine is too muck Les Miserables.

I love Appoline with 2 p. It is getting fairly popular in the French forums. Not BCBG completely, it's more BOBO.

I do know one, but hate her nickname of Appo.

seaturtle · 21/10/2010 22:01

Loved Eponine ever since I saw Les Miserables. Both names are nice.

Fenouille · 21/10/2010 21:02

BCBG (bon chic bon genre).

Apolline is included in this section of the book.

capucine · 21/10/2010 20:51

Yes, Apolline, what's mean under BCBG ?

OP posts:
Fenouille · 21/10/2010 20:46

Isn't Apolline spelt with two l's? It's under BCBG in my baby names book but I suppose that might not bother you if you're French.

Faaamily · 21/10/2010 20:43

Eponine is horrid.

capucine · 21/10/2010 20:43

Yes, Apolline is better
I am living in UK.
I want you opinion about the both name but I will use just one of them.
No, I don't like Amandine, but thank for your proposition.

I like Eponine.

Ishouldhavechosenagoldfish · 21/10/2010 19:36

Think Apolline looks better with the double ll. What about Amandine?

LoopyLoupGarou · 21/10/2010 19:35

Wasn't there an Appollonia (or similar) in the Godfather part 3? (or another Mario Puzo book).

Are you in France, Capucine, or the UK?

To be honest, I think one of those names by themselves wouldn't have evoked the same reaction, but the two together seem quite, um, special.

BOOsilla · 21/10/2010 19:29

Apoline makes me think of Appollonia in Purple Rain (old git with bad musical taste emoticon)

As others have said, Eponine sounds like something the GP would prescribe for eczema.

capucine · 21/10/2010 19:25

If you are looking French Talk about baby name, you can see Apoline everywhere.
Thank you pintyblud, plonker and Bonsoir, May be I can keep this name in my list.

Asinine?

A piscine? (also French!)

TotorosOcarina · 21/10/2010 19:19

Horses.

Bonsoir · 21/10/2010 19:19

Not terribly popular

SmellsLikeTeenSweat · 21/10/2010 19:19

I thought this was a 'Which medicine is best?" thread.

Bonsoir · 21/10/2010 19:17

I know a little Apolline. It's seriously OTT très chic.

plonker · 21/10/2010 19:17

I love Eponine because of Les Mis (On My Own is one of my favourite ever songs!) You could maybe go for Nina as a nn rather than Ep, which isn't very nice.

Apoline, actually I quite like this too - could be shortened to Polly as a nn

capucine · 21/10/2010 19:14

I am very surprise about your reaction, but It's good to know

pintyblud · 21/10/2010 19:14

Don;t like Eponine at all.

No, It's just a French name. Actualy, Apoline is very popular in France.
Eponine is a name from les Miserables (who is one of the best french book).
But for Apoline, I really don't know what English people can think about this name.
Sorry but it's not a joke.
