I really don't want to sound nasty but your DP's suggestion makes him sound like he's the kind of man who has very little respect for women and just sees them as cutesy, fluffy little things. Even using 'Princess' as a nickname makes me cringe.

Your suggestions of Sienna, Lola and Mae are very nice. Just don't hyphenate, use one name or the other, it's much classier.

RockBat · 21/10/2010 14:04

Yes, tell him you'll go for it but only with Anne or Di as a middle name. See how much he likes it then! :o

ManiDeadi · 21/10/2010 14:04

Well with an attitude like that from your DH, I am worried for your child's upbringing.

ColdComfortFarm · 21/10/2010 14:04

Lulu, short for Tallulah?

ZZZenAgain · 21/10/2010 14:03

I wouldn't choose Princess.

.

ColdComfortFarm · 21/10/2010 14:02

Lola is short for Dolores, with is rather sad sounding and sad in meaning. I like Laura - more timeless and prettier!

BalloonSlayer · 21/10/2010 14:01

I once met a grown up woman called Princess. I thought it was a lovely thing to be called, as it showed how much her parents had idolised her when she was born. Aaah.

Would not like to be called it myself, though, probably as the only princess I resemble is Princess Anne or Austin Princess.

Sarah means princess, if that's helpful.

TitsalinaBumPumpkin · 21/10/2010 14:01

It still sounds Porn Stary to me... anyway everyone will be singing Copacabana at her...

What about Tallulah?

ManiDeadi · 21/10/2010 14:01

I like Sienna.
Lola-mae - don't like the -mae, Lola is ok on it's own.
Agree it is utterly utterly cruel to give a girl the name Princess.

It would be awfully confusing for people when she announces herself as Princess Smith (or whatever) Hmm.

Is your DH a bit of a comedian?

PaisleyPumpkin · 21/10/2010 14:01

Lola was a showgirl though

Komondor · 21/10/2010 14:00

Cold comfort - I like your comment on it not being the deep south - although I usually hate hyphenated names (Ella-Mae being the most disliked) I have a soft spot for Ann-Marie, Mary-Lou and Sally-Ann.

PaisleyPumpkin · 21/10/2010 14:00

That's a rotten attitude - he's not the one who has to try and live a life with the name.

MotherMountainGhost · 21/10/2010 14:00

Sienna or Lola are both lovely. If you choose Princess you and your DD are going to spend a lifetime with people saying 'so you call her princess, that's very nice, but what's her real name now?' Just keep it as a pet name within your family.

Reminds me of when DD2 was born, and when she landed in my arms I muttered, 'Oh what an angel' and the midwife then, clearly having heard everything before and not wanting to be judgemental, put down Angel as the baby's name on her documents. I was horrified (we're fairly conservative on names).

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 13:59

and just to clarify LOLO was a porn star not LOLA and it wasnt her real name anyway and was years ago

cumbria81 · 21/10/2010 13:59

Lola sounds a bit raunchy

Sienna is quite chavvy

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 13:58

Komondor- I'm too scared to show him as he can be very stubborn and may want it even more just because other people dont like it to prove a point that he's not bothered what other people think lol! i will have to try suggest some other names and see if we can agree x

Sienna Miller won't be famous when your dd is older. And she's alright.

ColdComfortFarm · 21/10/2010 13:57

Sienna is nice, Lola-Mae is very commonplace now (esp the -Mae bit, it's not the deep south!) and Princess is fine as a nickname but horrid as a real name. People will laugh at her.

Expecting06112010 · 21/10/2010 13:57

yeah dont name her princess! dont like sienna either, it reminds me of sienna miller which makes me think slapper! but i do like lola!

TitsalinaBumPumpkin · 21/10/2010 13:56

Sienna is the nicest out of those, Lola is a porn star name and i know a girl called Lola, she is very unpleasant... and Princess... um just no.

GeorgeOsborne · 21/10/2010 13:55

No

PaisleyPumpkin · 21/10/2010 13:55

I think it'd be almost cruel to give a girl the name Princess. It's a label. Don't do it.

Komondor · 21/10/2010 13:55

Yummy mummy - Show him this thread, adn the reaction it gets.

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 13:55

Sienna is my fav choice if i get my way! :)
