Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Expecting, I think this is why he might be being spoken about harshly:
"he can be very stubborn and may want it even more just because other people dont like it to prove a point that he's not bothered what other people think"

the poor girl would then be stuck with the princess label just because of his stubbornness.

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 14:33

Your not being constructive at all, actually i think you are being very harsh. So he likes quite a girly name - he wouldnt care if her favourite colour was blue and she wanted a quad bike!

Surely naming a child should be a joint thing?

Expecting06112010 · 21/10/2010 14:30

hmmm i think you do seem to be being a little harsh on her fella, just because he like the name princess, your hanging him out to dry! and commenting on how he may bring up his daughter purely on a liking of a name is a bit strong dont you think!

colditz · 21/10/2010 14:24

I am being constructive. I really, honestly am.

I am constructively suggesting that a father who is so prescriptive as to want to call his daughter 'Princess' is a father who will buy everything in pink and guffaw jovially "You don't want that, Princess, football's for boys!"

I didn't say he was a bad person, just an extremely blinkered one.

And I suggested a very pretty feminine name that won't make the teachers laugh and judge the first time they read the register for her first class.

ManiDeadi · 21/10/2010 14:20

OP, I don't mean to be rude, but I'm finding it quite difficult to read your posts. Would you mind popping a few full stops in there please? Thanks Smile.

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 14:20

I have tried to inform him that as she gets older she may not appreciate he name but he thinks it wont be an issue i'm not bothered who were compared too tbh because im not her but i know he doesnt like Jordan so it might sway him

Colditz- she will like whatever she wants to like he would have no issue if she wanted to be a footballer at all i think some people are being quite mean he does just really like the name if you cant be constructive then i dont want to know

I like it spelled Siena

asouthwoldmummy · 21/10/2010 14:17

Just remember that your DD will be stuck with her name, and it could well affect her future. Princess the lawyer, princess the PM's wife? I don't think so!

Also would it bother you being compared to Jordan?

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 14:16

ha ha well she defo wnt be a 6fter but yes i know that she may not be a girly girl like i am - i did also like Jacob but it wasnt my favourite and as it was the only he liked out of the list we went for Jacob. sorry not keen on any of the other suggestions yet still sticking with Sienna and afer being told about Jordans Daughter Hubby may let me have Sienna! he hee

I've always liked Angelica, but it reminds me of that stuff my gran used to put on cakes.

Belle is the princess from Beauty and the Beast so could that work?

If I was you I would call her a long name that can be shortened to something girly.

If she grows up to be a 40 year old lawyer she might not want to be called Princess.

ColdComfortFarm · 21/10/2010 14:13

Aurora (sleeping beauty)

ColdComfortFarm · 21/10/2010 14:12

Frilly names include Angelica (he can call her Angel) Angelina (ditto, but there is the mad film star to consider) Arabella (Belle)?

colditz · 21/10/2010 14:12

She won't like Maths and Football. her dad will inform her of this fact before she is five years old. It won't even occur to her to like maths or football.Sad

colditz · 21/10/2010 14:11

For God's sake call her Natalie. Tilly for short.

ManiDeadi · 21/10/2010 14:10

Ella?

ColdComfortFarm · 21/10/2010 14:10

Ah, but Jacob is a NAME! And a nice name too, so completely different. Yes, point out that everyone will think you named your daughter to copy Jordan, because they will. I think it is just putting so much pressure on a child to be called Princess. Suppose she likes maths and football and is a sturdy six-footer?

TitsalinaBumPumpkin · 21/10/2010 14:09

Princess isn't even a name ist a title Confused

ManiDeadi · 21/10/2010 14:09

What about

Leila
Luisa
Saskia
Sara

Or if you want to keep the Princess theme, how about calling her Diana, Caroline etc

FimboBBINGFORAPPLES · 21/10/2010 14:09

So you had no choice in your ds's name?

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 14:09

he has alot of respect i dont think he is doing it for it to seem like he doesnt i think he genuinly thinks it would be a nice name which it would till she was like 5

Princess is the nickname builders from Essex give to their daughters. The builders are called Dave; their daughters are called Jade or Chloe. The Daves all have wives called Karen; they live in Barratt homes and go on holiday to Marbella.

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 14:06

i'm a sarah so thats out lol and my mum's rabbit is called Tallulah so not overly keen on that i still really really like Sienna but am still worried as with my first he was set on Jacob and wouldnt change not matter what i suggested! although he doesnt like Jordan so maybe if i inform him that her daughter is Princess he might change his mind.
