I agree with everything Colditz says, sorry but she speaks the truth

But that's very unlikely to happen, if she has a fluffy and non-aspirational name. Not saying it's impossible, you're just making it that much harder for her.

Sienna seems like a nice name. I hope you choose something that really suits your baby. :)

Not keen on Lola (I think of that song by the Kinks) or Princess, though I think either could work as a nickname.

If you like Lola, how about a longer name and use that as a nickname? Laura, Lauren, Laurie, etc.

pagwatch · 21/10/2010 16:09

Good god above no.
no no no.
no.
Really.
Bad. Really really really bad.

I don't have enough words to describe how truly awful. really just awful

Teapot13 · 21/10/2010 16:06

Are titles even permitted as first names? I've heard they aren't, which is an angle you may want to pursue if you need a counterargument.

Any little girl might be called "princess" by her daddy -- it doesn't have to be on the birth certificate.

OkayGrrl · 21/10/2010 16:00

The thing is OP, you asked for opinions and you got them, just because they don't make you feel fluffy and warm inside doesn't make them any less valid.

The thing is people will look at your daughter's CV and will judge her on her name, is it nice or fair? Heck no, but that's life, she isn't a doll she's a human who will not stay three years old forever.

ApocalypseCheese · 21/10/2010 15:59

Ah yes, a few ill thought out names from my school days...

Annete curtan

May Day

The pig twins. Emma and Dale. if it wasn't mad enough sounding like a soap opera when they got called in for tea, they also had to live with the surname 'pig'

All were mercilessly teased at school, all had parents who just didn't think !

PosieComeHereMyPreciousParker · 21/10/2010 15:57

People that call their children title names include Michael Jackson and Jordan, which of these twats do you and your DH emulate?

ColdComfortFarm · 21/10/2010 15:56

She'd probably end up as one of three or four Princesses in her school year though. That's how these things work. And everyone would say, 'name her after Jordan's daughter, did you?'
She's probably be sitting next to a Petal and a Honey.

emptyshell · 21/10/2010 15:55

If you HAVE to go down the Princess route (I'd urge you not to), please do it as a middle name so the kid's got an option other than that for later in life. You can always choose for her to be called by the middle of two Christian names - but at least on official forms and things it's not going to be jumping out.

Not that I agree with the choice at all - but at least try to make it semi-bearable if you're going to open that can of worms.

HollyGoHeavily · 21/10/2010 15:51

Do not call your daughter Princess.

It is an appalling name on every conceivable level.

colditz · 21/10/2010 15:39

I'm not being nasty. I'm being honest. If you don't want to participate in a slanging match, may I suggest that you stop screetching at people to fuck off and sod off?

You are considering your husband's feelings about wanting to name his daughter Princess more than you are considering your future daughter.

Saying that isn't nasty, it's just stating what has happened.

ManiDeadi · 21/10/2010 15:38

"I didnt come on here for a slanging match and did ask for people not be nasty"

I think you are on the wrong forum I'm afraid Grin

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 15:37

Simply writing ' I hate the name' would have been sufficent.

OP posts:
yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 15:37

Yes its a free board but I didnt come on here for a slanging match and did ask for people not be nasty. You are obv ignoring that and doing it anyway which is very disrepectful.

OP posts:
emptyshell · 21/10/2010 15:37

Princess, Honey, Angel... few of 'em round here - lovely and cutsey when they're three... but I always feel sorry for these kids because when they're 14, have decided they're a goth this week and are going through that slightly gangly arkward teenage bit with a few zits to boot - they're really not going to fit their name at all.

Lola - becoming massively popular, suspect "Charlie and" to be the cause of that one.

My mum thought it was cute to name me an alternative word for Fairy (but still a conventional girls name). I'm the most ungraceful ladylike feminine lump known to mankind and I flipping HATE the meaning of it as an adult.

ManiDeadi · 21/10/2010 15:36

OP you are actually a bit of a hypocrite aren't you?

From someone else's baby names thread:

"dont want to sound too rude but seriously.... minnie or sonnie??? i can see them being tormented at school already and when chosing a baby name you should remember they are not a baby forever they grow up and these names!?!? not good. x"

colditz · 21/10/2010 15:34

I'm not going to 'fuck off' or 'sod off' as you have so sweetly put it. I'm not going anywhere mate. It's a free board, and I am allowed to express an opinion. You are equally free to ignore me. I just think you should be thinking more about your daughter's feelings than your husbands, which you don't seem to be doing.

ApocalypseCheese · 21/10/2010 15:33

yummiemummie1. Colditz is quite rightly concerned about your future childs playground experiences, seriously, names are something which should be carefully thought over.

Tell your husband to stop being so selfish and put your damn foot down ![hsmile]

yummymummie1 · 21/10/2010 15:29

Are you still here? Fucking Hell! As I said - you dont like the name fair enough! Now you can sod off!

OP posts:
colditz · 21/10/2010 15:26

Yes I do. I do think that your daughter, at fiftenn years of age, will think that her dad is a tosser for stubbornly insisting on a name that is absolutely unequivocally chavvy and awful. It's comedic, yummiemummie1. People will firstly think you are joking and they will laugh in your face. Then they will realise you are serious and they will be flabberghasted.

ApocalypseCheese · 21/10/2010 15:26

Oooohhh, call her Anna, it's a lovely name, very underused and wouldn't look out of place on a doctors badge ! Grin
