Are there lots of Josies and Beas?

On the shortlist of names are Josephine and Beatrice (probably Josie and Bea day to day) - one of these names, not twins! But I'm a first-timer and don't know many little girls - are these names really popular at the moment?
Also like Rose...

Both lovely names. We're having Beatrice if it's a girl and don't know of any where we live. From what I've gathered on here lots of Bea's in London but less elsewhere.

sparkleshine · 25/10/2010 16:06

I don't know any Josie's or Bea's. Live in northwest.

TheOldestCat · 25/10/2010 16:02

Both lovely names. I know one Bea (fabulous name) and I have a Josie (Josephine Clare). So I'm biased, but hey Smile

As for popularity, we've not come across another Josie or Josephine in any of the circles we move in - nursery /friends in London, or among nursery / friends / childminding pals in Kent.

In my experience, elderly ladies who coo over your baby in the street love the name Josie, especially if they're Irish.

Crazycatlady · 25/10/2010 14:34

You know, conversely, Olivia is supposed to be the number 1 girl's name, but I only know one!

I think it really depends on your location and social circle as to what's popular.

shufflebum · 25/10/2010 14:26

Good friend has just called her baby Beatrice, nn Bea. I know of a 30ish Josie.

NothereisnobodylurkingbehindU · 25/10/2010 14:23

I know a Josie and I have a Bea - but they are the only ones. Bea is definately mentioned a lot on here atm - but then tis a fan name Grin

Crazycatlady · 25/10/2010 14:21

I know two under two's called Josephine, and two called Beatrice (one is mine).

Neither is anywhere near the top 100 as far as I know but both names are starting to get talked about a lot on here.

Both lovely names, don't think either will end up being the next Jessica, Olivia, Grace or Chloe, but you never know!

Rose is very popular indeed, but mostly as a middle name. Bit like Louise was years ago - about 50% of my female friends have Louise as a middle name...

geekygiraffe · 25/10/2010 14:21

haha, everything, you do indeed! Having name issues, gah. Rose is my mum's maiden name, but JOS ROS BOS... nightmare. Hey ho, maybe it's a boy, and we're sorted on that front...

I think they are popular but not ultra popular - I know a couple of each but that is across everyone I know, not in one particular geagraphical area.

No Josie's but 4 Bea's born in the last 2 years, and I don't know many people having babies

littlemisslozza · 22/10/2010 17:45

Jo-sea

smother · 22/10/2010 14:01

If Josie is a standalone fullname, how is it pronounced?

Jo-zee (rhyming with Rosie), or
Jo-sea

that confusion has put me off the name Josie a little although I have always loved the name.

I don't know any either. NEast.

Sariska · 22/10/2010 10:39

I have a baby Josephine who's the only Josephine of any age I know. I do, however, know a 7 yo Josie (full name).

And I know one Beatrice (nn Bea), who is 4.

MrsJohnDeere · 22/10/2010 10:37

I don't know any Josies or Beas or Beatrices. Herts.

JosephineClaire · 22/10/2010 10:29

I'm a Josephine, and I have met only 2-3 in my lifetime (a grand 24 years so far) - one was a girl a couple of years older than me, and one was an old lady, who was utterly delighted to meet another Josephine.

I love my name, and love the fact that there are never too many of us about - but whatever plans my mother had, I absolutely refused to be called Josie as a child, and insisted that everybody called me Josephine, as that was my name.

I do also love the name Beatrice/Bea, but think that if you're looking for a more uncommon name, Josephine might be the way to go.

(Can also recommend Claire Elizabeth as middle names!) x

Runoutofideas · 21/10/2010 18:14

I think Bea is more popular than Josie - although I like both names.

DD2 was at a toddler class recently where they were put in groups. One group consisted of Emily B, Bea P, Emily P and Bea E - say it out loud - it was confusing!

littlemisslozza · 20/10/2010 22:42

I know a 1 year old Josie, no Bea's.

Jojay · 20/10/2010 22:05

I know 2 Bea's, 2 Rosie's but no Josie's, not any young ones anyway.

MuffinMouse · 20/10/2010 22:03

I know one three year old Josie and one, year old Beatrice..

MuffinMouse · 20/10/2010 22:03

I know one three year old Josie and one, year old Beatrice.

BuntyPenfold · 20/10/2010 21:54

I know 2 Bea/Beatrice, lots of Roses, no one called Josie under the age of 40.

brittan76 · 20/10/2010 18:30

I know of a baby Beatrice but not any Josephines
