Juliet! Smile

expectingno3 · 18/10/2010 10:57

Maia Scarlett or Maia Juliet are lovely.

rachxx · 18/10/2010 10:43

Well Maia in greece is pronounced my-er and I think it looks nice like this...I think its the sort of name you can't win with pronounciation. I could just spell it Mya, but this looks unfinished in my opinion.

Maia Juliet

I would pn it Maya btw, I wouldn't have thought it was so difficult - it's very mainstream Confused

cece · 17/10/2010 21:28

Maia is miles better ythan Tallulah.

Use Juliet.

I think middle names should be chosen for family or personal reasons not because they sound nice!

1Catherine1 · 17/10/2010 21:26

Beth - it's quite feminine and not commonly used at the moment. Short for Elizabeth, some people consider it dated though.

Claire - very girly and never too common.

goplayout · 17/10/2010 21:26

Sorry, but I really wouldn't choose Maia - mainly because it's not clear which way to pronounce it. I know 3 people with variations on this name pronounced as follows

my-er (she spells it maya)

may-a (spelt maia)

mee-a (also spelt maia!)

I only say as 1 of my DC has a name which is spelt in the traditional (I think correct!Grin) way, and it is nearly always mispronounced on on first reading. Very annoying for DC!!

You may have picked the correct spelling, but how will you feel if the name is persistantly mis read?

rachxx · 17/10/2010 21:04

Thankyou Catherine. Any ideas as to a one syllable name that we can use. Any suggestions welcome.

I'm a teacher and struggle with name pronunciations all the time. Maia wasn't that hard to work out in all honesty. So I wouldn't worry about the pronunciation. I think you should stick to a single syllable name to go with her surname but I don't like Brooke, it sounds really American.

Maia Juliet

thisisyesterday · 17/10/2010 17:11

i love Maia, it's a beautiful name

my fave from your lsit is Maia Juliet

rachxx · 17/10/2010 17:06

I cant really find many names that seem to work with Maya/Mais. Its seems to be better as a middle name, but I really want DD1 to have it as a first name, so not sure what to do really.

rachxx · 17/10/2010 17:04

Yes, I can't decide between maya and maia. Maia is the greek version. Hmmm well my name choice is Maia/maya where as my partner wants tallulah, hence why I put then together. My mum is called Juliet, so thats one of the reasons why I thought maybe that could work as a middle name.

SoupDragon · 17/10/2010 16:35

maia Tallulah sounds awful to me because of the A sounds... Too many of them and it doesn't flow nicely (bizarrely, Tallulah Maia does sound better but i still don't like it :o) I'd strike Sienna off the list for that reason too actually.

I think Juliet is good as you have a slightly wacky name and a nice sensible one and also it has a hard sound at the end which IMO complements the softer A at the end of Maia. Brooke and Scarlet work in this respect but I don't like them.

Whilst I'm here, personally I prefer Maya.

ihave3beauties · 17/10/2010 14:45

I love the name Maia..
I actullay love tallulah maia? they are all very nice though..:) x

MardyBra · 17/10/2010 12:59

Ah rach - sorry. Just living up to my nn. Brooke is my fav to go with Maia, although I like all the others with the exception of Tallulah (trying too hard).

Ineedsomesleep · 17/10/2010 12:55

Prefer Maia Juliet. DD nearly got named Juliet but DH changed his mind at the last minute.

Really don't like Maia Tallulah, sounds like a stripper and Maia Brooke, Maia Callie or Maia Sienna.

sleepyhorse · 17/10/2010 12:52

rachxx - don't listen to anyone....

Maia is one of the most beautiful girls names around (and great way to spell it). If I had had a girl it would have definately been on my list.

I like:

Maia Brooke
Maia Sienna

rachxx · 17/10/2010 12:48

lol mardybra sorry if I came across a bit meh :)

Ahhh maia tallulah is actually on top of the list...is it really dreadful then? (I promise I wont moan, whatever the answer!!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/10/2010 12:45

Maia Tallulah is utterly dreadful, don't go for that one.

I think Juliet is the nicest middle name.

MardyBra · 17/10/2010 12:44

Actually ignore me. Probably being a bit premenstrual.

MardyBra · 17/10/2010 12:40

Fine. You asked for an opinion and I said I preferred the shorter ones. Sorry I spoke.

NiceCuppaT · 16/10/2010 17:27

like Maia Juliet best
