Can you spell Margot as Margo

I think probably not but I've done a search on the name here and hadn't thought of the maggot connection! Anyone know how likely it is a child will get teased for this? Does Margo just look a bit rubbish though?

And opinions welcome on the name itself of course :) .

Oooh, congratulations and thanks for updating! Smile

CheungFun · 09/04/2013 21:02

Ahh congratulations! I know a grown up Margo and she is lovely and very intelligent :)

Sanctimumious · 09/04/2013 19:16

Margo is the spanish version. I would use Margo or Margot but not Margeaux

Umlauf · 09/04/2013 15:59

They spell it that way in Despicable Me!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 09/04/2013 13:48

Congratulations! Thanks good to hear what you decided on.

Needaname · 09/04/2013 12:49

In the spirit of updating, we do indeed have a little Margot :).

One friend calls her Mango which we quite like.

Since having her I've heard of at least six other young Margots.

Prefer Margot

Envy either way though!

Komondor · 20/10/2010 11:00

no, Margo or Margot are both meh.

How about Miriam.

smother · 19/10/2010 22:32

Margot is a fantastic name - I adore it. And the nn Maggie is gorgeous too, what a sweet name for a kid (as long as you can get over the Thatcher connection of course!)

Nikna · 18/10/2010 12:24

I know a Margo, and think it is lovely name. I embarrassed myself my mis-spelling it with a "t".

upahill · 18/10/2010 12:09

Well the orphan in 'Despicable Me' is spelt Margo if that helps.

MackerelOfFact · 18/10/2010 12:03

I know a Spanish Margo. We call her Mango.

readywithwellies · 17/10/2010 22:34

Margo is Margo, no possibility for error. Margot looks too posh for me but I am a pauper so feel free to ignore me.

Needaname · 17/10/2010 21:16

Thanks everyone. I think we will go with Margot if we use it. We do have Polish and German connections so some reminders to knock the t off the end will be needed :).

I liked Margot in The Good Life luckily!

I love the name Margot and it was no1 on our list but we had a boy! I prefer it with a 't' though.

Ragwort · 16/10/2010 20:18

Of course you can spell it Margo.

SpecterBooAlot · 16/10/2010 20:16

Margot is a lovely name. Margo looks stupid.

allyfe · 16/10/2010 19:45

I love Margot, but that is because the film "La Reine Margot". Before that, it was Margo from The Good Life - much more negative association!

CharlieBoo · 16/10/2010 18:18

I'm sorry either way you spell it, it's positively awful. So many beautiful names, it's very harsh sounding. Sorry

moragsoverhereplease · 16/10/2010 17:23

I love the name Margo it is on my list as a nn for Margarite.

poppydaisy · 16/10/2010 16:29

I think most languages (other than French) will sound the 't'.

I would go with Margo if you want it pronounced that way.

CaptainNancy · 16/10/2010 15:45

You can spell it that way... but I prefer Margot (and I love it)

spidookly · 16/10/2010 15:42

I prefer Margo too.

Margot can be pronounced more than one way, and most of them sound the t.

rachel234 · 16/10/2010 15:40

I know a Margot (Dutch) and her name is pronounced Mar-gott.

I know that in French you don't pronounce the 't' but in English you would, wouldn't you? You say Elliot, not Ellio.

I agree with previous poster - if you spell it Margo, then the pronounciation will be clear to everyone.
