Arlo is a lovely name, and it's very unlikely there will still be a character called Arlo in Hollyoaks by the time your DS is old enough to understand, or care!

I recommend simply not watching Hollyoaks

Muddledmum-pretty sure our ds's have the same name and are the same age because exactly the same thing happened to me. But no, we didn't name him after a soap character either (although slightly more keen on a certain character in monarch of the glen...)

Arlo is a nice name and the Hollyoaks character is apparently not a permanent fixture so I wouldn't worry :)

I know how you feel. I called one son Myles with the firm intention of always calling him Mylo after reading that name in a book.

However, a few weeks after his birth the Tweenies came onto BBC with the characters Jake and Milo. Stopped calling my son that almost immediately.
(Did find myself calling him Smiley Miley for a while though - anyone else old enough to remember him on the Radio1 Summer Roadshow?!)

Your feelings are understandable but the character will not be known by most people - thank heavens it was Hollyoaks not Eastenders or Corrie!

Bandgeek, snap! my Ava is a little older than Myleenes....I also called my boy a name that a well known soap character has, tis fine, nobody has said anything, at least not to my face...Arlo is gorgeous and nobody watches hollyoaks anyway

I found out a week after DS was born that he shared his name with a neighbours dog! Five years later he is best friends with the dd of the dogs owner, so has regular contact with the dog too

I was a bit miffed when Myleene Klass called her DD Ava as it is my DD's name. Irrational I know, but miffed all the same.

If its a character on Hollyoaks they'll probably be killed off within the next couple of months or disappear into the ether - wouldnt worry about it too much.

It's ok, we named our kid Felix despite having a next door neighbour with a FEMALE cat called Felix.

If it's your first kid. get used to this. I had to. I know a 5 year old Arlo and while it's not common, you will come across other people with this name!

OOOH I loved family affairs ..it was so crap it was good

I remember an Arlo in Family Affairs, the ill-fated Channel 5 soap.

I gave my son the same name as a soap character. Given I didn't watch the soap I had no idea but lo and behold 24 hours after I gave birth said soap character was killed off in some nonsensical storyline and the 'whodunnit' was splashed all over the blooming tabloids. I lost count of the idiotic buffoons who asked me if I named him after this character!!!! 'Oh yes', I thought of replying, 'we really thought it would be delightful to name my beautiful baby boy after a low rent soap star in honour of the fact that this week he met his untimely demise by bring thrown of a car park roof' (or something equally preposterous). I was so enraged by these cretins I almost considered changing baby's name but husband was far less hormonal than me (and frankly couldn't face any more baby name debates) so the name stayed. Within literally weeks the carped it soap character was forgotten and now nobody ever makes that association.

So please don't fret. Some imbecile may ask but that's more of a reflection on them than you. Frankly there are that many soap/real life dramas about now it's hard to avoid your name coming up somewhere. It's a great name and you need not worry at all. Anyhoo if at any point in the future someone asks me to rule the world I intend to pass a law that states all names can only be used once (I clearly get first dibs on the ones I've already picked what with ne being in charge) and then all these problems will be solved..
