I really like it

lowrib · 17/10/2010 00:36

Oh sorry I see you've been vetoed!

How about Ossian (Scottish) / Osian (Welsh)? (Pronounced Osh-an)

lowrib · 17/10/2010 00:35

I used to know an Omri, he was a really nice guy.

It's a really nice name.

IHeartKingThistle · 16/10/2010 23:27

I have taught a teenage Omri and he was one of the brightest and loveliest kids I've ever taught, if that helps!

sparkle12mar08 · 13/10/2010 21:23

It's beautiful and clearly a non-english/non-Western name, so ignore the ignoramuses confusing it with Henry/Henri Wink. Really love it, but I guess it dores depend on your family mix/heritage?

SirBoobAlot · 13/10/2010 20:39

Sounds silly and agree with what the others have said RE: Henry / Henri.

Montifer · 13/10/2010 19:28

I've got an Uncle Omri and he's Israeli.

Never met or heard of another.

Starberries · 13/10/2010 18:11

I really like it but DP just gave a flat-out no. Sad

Grr, did not work, sorry.
Look there

Omri's origins:

scouserabroad · 12/10/2010 20:21

It also means something like "my love" or "my darling" in Arabic. That's how my Dh (Algerian) uses it anyway. But I don't think it's used as a name in Arabic - Dh not here so can't ask!

umf · 12/10/2010 20:17

'tis Hebrew. An early king of the Israelites. See Wikipedia.

mathanxiety · 12/10/2010 20:16

Love it. Very underused, imo.

fayc84 · 12/10/2010 16:49

It sounds Egyptian or something. Nice, but maybe a bit out of place for an English family IMO.

AnnieLobeseder · 12/10/2010 16:49

Nope, not Hebrew. Not a name commonly used in Israel anyway.

I get the Henry connection from the French pronunciation, I guess.

BuntyPenfold · 12/10/2010 16:21

I like it, but I can see the Henry connection.
I know a very advanced 2 year old Henri, often mistakenly called Henry. His parents have taught him to chant AitchEeeEnAreEye-Onree to make it clear.

poppydaisy · 12/10/2010 15:03

I like it.

Littlefish · 12/10/2010 14:35

I don't like it. Sorry.

It sounds like something you chant at yoga.

Pasiphae · 12/10/2010 14:29

Lovely, but my DD is currently reading the Indian in the Cupboard, so biased via the book...

LetThereBeRock · 12/10/2010 13:56

I love it. It reminds me of The Indian In The Cupboard books.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 12/10/2010 13:49

Sorry, not a fan. Sounds made up (although I know it's not), and too similar to Henri.

Notyetamummy · 12/10/2010 13:48

I like it.

Thissideofchannel · 12/10/2010 13:43

It is Hebrew, I think. Can't personally see any similarity with Henry.. Hmm

AnnieLobeseder · 12/10/2010 13:35

Sorry, don't like it, sounds like some poncey way to change Henry or similar.

Thissideofchannel · 12/10/2010 13:30

Great name!
