Thomas Rex - yay or nay?

Thomas because we like it and Rex as it was my father's and grandfather's names.
Shortens to T-Rex, so either cool (dinosaur) or not cool (ageing rock group), or baking hot (Trex lard).
Hmmmm.

Great name. I like a family link.

WhatTheWhat · 11/10/2010 19:03

Dastardly - no!!!? Really???

I seriously thought that Rex as a first name was going way off acceptable territory, but perhaps I will think again!

Good point re using middle names...

I really liked the name Rex (husband said no!) but agree with two points made: T-Rex thing is a bit dodgy and Rex after something else sounds like a King. But this is the same whether you choose Thomas, David or anything.

Rex Thomas did sound a nice alternative. If you don't want to use Rex on a daily basis plenty of people do use their middle names.

DastardlyandSmugly · 11/10/2010 13:42

I like Rex but know three of them.

shareastory · 11/10/2010 13:28

Rex is a really great name

pencilpotmonitor · 08/10/2010 17:29

Rex is a great name.
I like Thomas Rex and Rex Thomas Smile

flopsy1974 · 08/10/2010 17:08

Rex is definately a no no.

bundlebelly · 08/10/2010 15:04

I wouldn't go for Noah, anything with an A sound in it sounds a bit 'anorexic'
Rex is a gorgeous name.
What about using it as first name?

WhatTheWhat · 08/10/2010 14:59

I would like to use the name, because of the family connection. Thomas is a surprise no-no from some. So how about:

  • David Rex
  • Noah Rex
  • Isaac Rex
?

I think it sounds cool. I bet he'd love it one day!

violethill · 07/10/2010 20:57

If you really want to use Rex because it's a family name, it would sound better with another name to pad it out eg Thomas William Rex. I think Muffin's right - Thomas and Rex together just sound wrong.

violethill · 07/10/2010 20:56

Not keen on Rex. And definitely not keen on TRex - just dreadful

ConnorTraceptive · 07/10/2010 20:55

T rex is awful sorry. Although neither are bad on their own.

SirBoobAlot · 07/10/2010 20:51

No.

BooBoo has vocalised my thoughts perfectly.

WhatTheWhat · 07/10/2010 19:59

A mixed bag! Slightly weighted to yay but more so in favour of Rex than Thomas. Hmmm. I thought that Tom would be the uncontroversial bit!

Muffin, because they aren't dog's names and Rex is. I agree with amothersplace. Or a king's name.

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 07/10/2010 17:46

WhatTheWhat - no! Sadly my humour is not that quickfire. That is my usual name and I just had to comment. As my boys have dogs' names, as Amothersplaceisinthewrong testifies!

MuffinMouse · 07/10/2010 17:45

Why say it's a dog's name? I just don't get it. If so, so are:
Rufus
Sam
Ben
Jake

etc etc

If she'd suggested spot or rusty, I would agree

Bue · 07/10/2010 17:20

Yay. Rex is awesome.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 07/10/2010 16:39

Rex is a dogs name

hatebeak · 07/10/2010 16:37

T Rex the rock group - not uncool.

rachel234 · 07/10/2010 15:10

I love Rex! I'm less keen on Thomas/Tom personally.

WhatTheWhat · 07/10/2010 14:57

Smile @ muffin

Now MBHDN - are you a nameymcnamechange?

I really like Rex - just not with Thomas. It is the combination of the final 's' sound with Rex - I just hear - well ya know
