Is it very cruel to call a little girl...

I really love unusual names but be honest with me, is it evil to call a little girl:

Apple
or...
Elfie

DH thinks so. I did have my heart set of Florence after my favourite cousin-in-law, but the Camerons have nicked it :(

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

tiggyd - Aiofe is a name - it's Irish and pronounced Eee-fa

gorionine · 05/10/2010 06:54

Why should you not call you r DD Florence because the Camerons have called their DD Florence? Unless you are related to him and adding a Florence to the family I really do not see the problem. Plenty of other florences about why cary about this one in particular?

notagrannyyet · 05/10/2010 06:46

Flower names are fine. But not fruit!

Elfie is OK, but Florence is much nicer. I wouldn't worry about DC baby having the same name.

NKinDXB · 05/10/2010 06:42

I don't think Apple is the worst of celeb baby names. Quite sweet. But agree with those who said it looks like copying Gwyneth/Chris.

I like Avery (surprise surprise DH didn't!) and apparently that is an old name meaning Elf.

TiggyD · 04/10/2010 23:00

Aiofe?! You just accidently typed that when you nodded off and your head hit the keyboard. That's not a name.

mamatomany · 04/10/2010 22:57

What about Aiofe ? At least it is a name and you could call her Elfie.

Spidermama · 04/10/2010 22:56

Elfie's nice. I knew an Elfie.

TiggyD · 04/10/2010 22:55

Tiggy is a sensible name. Call her that.

paisleyleaf · 04/10/2010 22:51

Even if you're sure she'll stay tall and thin, I don't think Elfie is fair on a person.

TiggyD · 04/10/2010 22:48

Stick to the suggestions in a book of names rather than a plant catalogue.

Apologies for apostrophe -for some reason my finger seems to type it with an s!

lola0109 · 04/10/2010 22:27

My niece gets called elfy but her name is erin louise f....

Could you do something like this?

You could have florence as a middle name?

piscesmoon · 04/10/2010 22:24

Don't do it. I can't see why the Cameron's using the name Florence has any bearing on it. If you like it then use it.

seeker · 04/10/2010 22:07

PLOEASE don;t choose a name because you think it's cure. Teenagers and adult women don;t necessarily want to be cute.

And you are naming an adult woman, not a baby. An you seriouly can't call anyone the slang name for a testicle!

twolittlekings · 04/10/2010 22:06

or use as a middle name - we have quite a few friends who have done this.

Haliborange · 04/10/2010 22:05

Hm.

Can you not just do what the posh folks do and call the baby, say, Antonia. Then nickname her Apple/Elfie/Pixie/Teddy/Muffy/La/Grub or whatever.

Purplelooby · 04/10/2010 22:04

Ha ha sorry twolittlekings

Elfie is getting a better reaction that I expected - I'm going to work on DH a bit more...

I like the Elfriede idea.

twolittlekings · 04/10/2010 22:02

Yes the one and the same! Now I shall never think of Flora in the same light :(

AngryPixie · 04/10/2010 22:00

If you're in Souf London, we'll all think you're calling your son, Alfie, when you call for 'Elfie'

Purplelooby · 04/10/2010 21:52

Like the Sunflower Spread? Or the body's natural defence mechanism?

OP posts:
twolittlekings · 04/10/2010 21:48

Oh not elfie - please! She'll hate you when she is older.

Trixie reminds me of a dog

Florence is lovely - I think go for it but otherwsie but what about Flora?

BelligerentGhoul · 04/10/2010 21:48

Evil.

Apple is ridiculous and will make people think you copied that idiot from Cold Play.

Elfie nice as a nn but not as a real name.

LynetteScavo · 04/10/2010 21:46

I like Elfie.

Not Apple though, and it's already been done by a sleb couple.

Fluffypoms · 04/10/2010 21:44

Go for it.

I usually get this Hmm face when replying to what my dc's are called.

But i love their names thats why i chose them
