Found 'the one' - and it's not Beauden [grin]

Hi everyone,

Well, after a few days of constant name games, me and dh are sorted. Thanks to everyone's help we have decided not to go with Beauden after the BAD reaction on here. Or Indigo or Lyric or Soren. Lots of you still will hate our choices but I think you know when you have decided because you don't care less anymore what others think (in a nice way).

Soooo. our final choices are:

Girl: Sonnet Melody
Boy: Winter Beau Alexander.

See, I still have my Beau in there Grin.

I think these fit in really well with our other dc. The only big problem is that we have an Autumn so it may well sound contrived. But they aren't going to be joined at the hip and will have their own identities.

One last favour!!!

Can anyone suggest a nice third name to go with Sonnet Melody? (Our other three have all got two middle names so I want to do the same).

Was thinking perhaps:

Sonnet Melody Grace
Sonnet Melody Eve
Sonnet Melody Erin

Want a classic name she can fall back on if she hates her other two names.

Anyway, thank you for all your help. I think I can almost leave these boards in peace now Grin

Don't start on Beauden again. Skyler, definitely Skyler.

arizonagirl · 21/10/2010 22:16

OH NO!!!! Don't have Beauden - I would be green with envy. I still love that name but everyone has put me off. Now you have me wondering!!!!!!

Skyler or Beauden??????

LadyStitt · 21/10/2010 22:02

I have enjoyed reading your names, your choices (like my own) are unusual but not in a 'wrong' way.

I love Wynn or Winter for a boy - much more original then choosing a name like Jack or Harry - there are literally far to many of these already!!

Good for you for not letting people put you off your choices - unlike you, i am weak and tend to let people's opinions scare me off my name choices!!!

I also love Beau but want to use it for a girl... i am now texting OH with the suggestion of 'Beauden' for our LO (if its a girl - i know its not meant to be a girl name but i just love it!!!)

Come on, baby! I can't wait to find out if it's Sonnet or Skyler. Like both, though have my pouty pants on about Indigo and Peregrine, nn Hawk, not being chosen. [hgrin]

Good luck! And congrats bag!

arizonagirl · 19/10/2010 20:52

YAY!!!! CONGRATULATIONS Bagpusstree - that is fantastic news Grin Grin So so pleased all is well and love the name Erin Lily. Hope it all went smoothly and you are getting lots of baby cuddles in.

We are still waiting - any time now. Thanks for the sweet comment Rafi. Will let everyone know when we have our trochaic trimeter or our Schuyler/Skyler/Skylar bundle.

Think we must be finally happy with our name choices as there has been no further debate between me and dh. So glad we didn't go for Beauden - THANK YOU!!! Still like it mind, but much prefer Skyler (Sky).

Girlsworld: interesting! I would agree that if I was saying Melody as a name I would do it stress-unstress-unstress (which is a dactyl in poetic rhythm). But try to turn it into a line of poetry and I think it works better as trochaic trimeter, which would put a stress on the final syllable too.

God, I need to give birth soon! Something needs to distract me!!

Bagpusstree · 19/10/2010 16:52

Hi Arizona, just dropped in to see of your baby had made an appearance yet, and to keep up with the naming decisions!

Had my little girl 10 days late last Wednesday. Decided on Sonnet Melody..... Whaddya think????

Joking Grin . She is plain old Erin Lily, but anyway, good luck, I'll be watching! Please let us know Smile

Rafi · 19/10/2010 11:34

This has to have been the most entertaining name thread ever, and I love your final choices, Arizonagirl. Good luck.

arizonagirl · 18/10/2010 23:42

Shock Hmm Confused

Oh no, what have I started now???

Still, at least no-one is giving me an ear bashing anymore Grin

I have to disagree with you Girlsworld. I have the same emphasis for Melody as Lurcher.

Girlsworld · 17/10/2010 22:31

Lurcher: I bow to your greater academic wisdom but how on earth can you say (i I have interpreted your comment correctly) that "Sonnet Melody" has THREE key syllables? As a phrase, it has two key syllables, AFAICT, which are SONnet MELody.

Saying "MEL-o-DY" is forced and unnatural pronunciation IMHO, in the manner of street slang. Melody is a typical three syllable word/name with the emphasis heavily on the first syllable, ie NATalie, CARoline, OLiver, in contrast to those three syllable names with emphasis on the second syllable ie NaTASHa or FranCESca. "Melody" just doesn't have any emphasis in particular on the third "dy" of the name.

Thanks for the sweet comment JustKeepSwimming. Will keep you posted and let everyone know on the name....Grin

Arizona - you definitely got me, thought you had gone for Beauden after all :)

I really wanted to wish you all the very best for the birth, at least everyone medical should be ready to deal with any emergency as they are forewarned?
Best of luck :)

arizonagirl · 17/10/2010 10:35

Thanks BonzoDooDah - still waiting. No change on the name front so I guess that means we are pretty happy with them. Keep thinking I should put a third name in which reflects a successful outcome if the birth goes well - eg. True, Hope etc etc but won't get started on that.

Will let you know when baby Sonnet or Skyler is here with us safely. Trying to keep calm but keep thinking bad things. Shame because I usually love the whole birth experience (even though it has always ended up in ecs) but when you are told how dangerous the birth is and you might not come out the other side - it is not so easy. Anyhow, that is another thread.

Lola19, how are you?

BonzoDooDah · 17/10/2010 00:09

Keep going Arizona - fingers crossed for you

chalat · 15/10/2010 18:51

Thinking of you arizonagirl... you had us all going there for a minute Grin - can see you in the delivery suite tossing a coin for a name choice!! lol

arizonagirl · 15/10/2010 00:06

Beauden Arizona Winter has arrived.......

Wink No, lola0109 - still waiting for our little bundle. And no, we haven't changed our name choices (did have a quick wobble after the Shakesperian comparisons mind).

Still haven't packed my bag - bought everything, just need to throw it all in the bags. Really worried this time - gets worse at nights, probably because that's when it's all likely to kick off.

How are you? Any news your end?

OP posts:
lola0109 · 14/10/2010 23:18

How are things going arizona? Has Sonnet/Skyler(Boden) threatened an appearance yet?

lurcherlover · 14/10/2010 09:55

Heh heh! No, it's poetic rhythm. Trimeter means three beats to a line - SONnet MELoDY - you put the stress on the capitalised syllables. Because the rhythm is stress-unstress it's trochaic. Just a bit of geekiness really, nothing sinister!

arizonagirl · 13/10/2010 22:21

Hey, girls - you are talking a different language! I have googled Sonnet Melody and read the connotations but it doesn't seem like a show stopper. Is a trochaic trimeter Confused a negative connotation?

Help! I don't get all this new terminology and still love the name.

OP posts:
lurcherlover · 13/10/2010 15:29

DaemonBarber - Shakespeare wrote his sonnets in iambic pentameter, but the phrase "Sonnet Melody" is trochaic trimeter.

Lurcherlover reveals herself as an English teacher on maternity leave with too much time on her hands....

DaemonBarber · 13/10/2010 09:13

Don't want to be pedantic, but...

Isn't Sonnet Melody classically Iambic Pentameter (especially Shakespearian)

CheerfulYank · 12/10/2010 16:03

I think Indie Rose is very pretty! I love color names (especially Indigo and Grey) but our surname is Brick. So.....those are definitely out. Plus we went pretty safe with DS (Sam) so I feel like we can't come out of left field on another one and have a Moondance Serenity or summat. :o

JustKeepSwimming · 12/10/2010 13:04

Veeback? Grin

Seriously though good luck with it.

skippingturtle · 12/10/2010 12:39

Well now, if you'd told us that before I'm sure us MNers could have come up with some highly unusual vagina-related names!! Grin
