Found 'the one' - and it's not Beauden [grin]

Hi everyone,

Well, after a few days of constant name games, me and dh are sorted. Thanks to everyone's help we have decided not to go with Beauden after the BAD reaction on here. Or Indigo or Lyric or Soren. Lots of you still will hate our choices but I think you know when you have decided because you don't care less anymore what others think (in a nice way).

Soooo. our final choices are:

Girl: Sonnet Melody
Boy: Winter Beau Alexander.

See, I still have my Beau in there Grin.

I think these fit in really well with our other dc. The only big problem is that we have an Autumn so it may well sound contrived. But they aren't going to be joined at the hip and will have their own identities.

One last favour!!!

Can anyone suggest a nice third name to go with Sonnet Melody? (Our other three have all got two middle names so I want to do the same).

Was thinking perhaps:

Sonnet Melody Grace
Sonnet Melody Eve
Sonnet Melody Erin

Want a classic name she can fall back on if she hates her other two names.

Anyway, thank you for all your help. I think I can almost leave these boards in peace now Grin

EauRouge · 04/10/2010 09:39

I love Bob. You have wonderful taste in names Grin

CuppaTeaJanice · 04/10/2010 09:38

arizonagirl - Here is a link that might help you.

It's a list of all the trees at Bedgebury Pinetum in Kent. Lots of different varieties of Cypress and other Fir and Pine trees. Latin names and Common names. I only had time for a quick look but there were some nice sounding names there - maybe your baby's perfect name will be in the list!!

(The link is a pdf so if the link doesn't work just google Bedgebury Pinetum and click on 'list of trees'.)

thumbwitch · 04/10/2010 09:38

I might have it - how about Caelus? from the Latin for sky - whaddya think?

arizonagirl · 04/10/2010 09:35

Morning. Fed up. Loving Cypress but can't get over the sombre meanings. Wondering what people think out there and whether it would put them off if is a tree found in cemeteries? Dh doesn't think it is a problem but I suspect it is to me (and one I will always think about). Actually, I eliminated Everest for that reason (ever rest - a common name for funeral homes apparently!)

So I suspect we are onto Take five. Like the idea of Sirius but it sounds too like 'serious'. Kind of like Jupiter and Atlas but they are rather wacky. How about Bob?

OP posts:
Bagpusstree · 04/10/2010 08:33

How about Cyrus, similar to Cypress but not, a persian lord or something though so not nature related. Or Sirius - the brightest star seen from earth, or Cirrus - a cloud formation?

Good luck with the birth though Arizona, I'll be watching closely for the name announcement Smile

thumbwitch · 04/10/2010 01:27

I thought of Silvana too but obviously girl - didn't quite make it to Silvanus!

Meant to say as well that Jem is a nn for James or Jeremy as well.

Bumperlicious · 04/10/2010 01:10

Loving this thread & the op :)

lola0109 · 04/10/2010 00:57

Couldn't you use sonnet?

Sonnet Melody Rose

or

Sonnet Beau Alexander

LetThereBeRock · 04/10/2010 00:41

I like Dave.Grin

mathanxiety · 04/10/2010 00:37

Cyan ----> cyanide

arizonagirl · 04/10/2010 00:27

Jem1980 and LetThereBeRock - you both mention Silvanus....made an impact. Cyan...that did too. Thank you. Lola0109 - thank you too, and say hello to dp. Like Bay from your list but probably a bit short.

Secretwishescometrue - yes, I do like Melody but know she would be nicknamed Mel (which I really dislike). Thumbwitch - about to look at your thread Smile. I like Juniper - dh doesn't.

Do you know what - I've made a decision.

If it's a girl, she will be Sonnet Melody Rose.

If it's a boy, he will be.... Dave.

Kind of pinning my hopes on a girl...

arizona, read this about the cypress tree and see if it changes your mind at all - yes, associations with cemeteries in the southern/hotter European countries but also with spiritual immortality. :)

I like Cypress.

Linden is too close to Logan
Acer is indeed a computer company
I would suggest Jacaranda, nn Jack, but it sounds too much like a girl's name.
Juniper is nice
Don't choose Aspen - Ass is not good and there is also the potential to nn him Aspie, which has other connotations.

You don't like Sorrel?

What about Redwood?
Bamboo?
Mahogany?
Teak?
Ash? (Latin name Fraxinus)

Secretwishescometrue · 03/10/2010 23:47

I think Arizona is lovely for a girl actually... Hmm your already happy with the girls though aren't you so il leave it... Altho I really really do think Melody Rose or Melody Sonnet flows so much nicer and Autumn and Melody sound so lovely together I can just imagine them being uber sweet.... Anyways tangent over hmm I can certainly agree it would be plain wrong to name your ds Winter with his big sister being Autumn! I do quite like Beau but def prefer Alexander. Your wanting something naturey though aren't you? Well I know a hospital which is one of the finest in the world with some of the kindest staff and every ward has a nature name some I think you could use ((in order of my preference :) )) Cedar, Rowan, Mapel, Hawthorne (bit out there but could be a future rock star...) Redwood (Red is quite a nifty nn actually...)) any tickle your interests?? All the best with your labour I hope it goes well for you and your lo

jem1980 · 03/10/2010 23:22

Alternatives to Cypress if you're not 100% happy:

Nairn (means "river with elder trees")
Silvanus (the Greek god of trees)
Burnet (old French word for brown)
Quince

Forrest
Zephyr
Hickory

Cobalt
Cyan
Cerulean
(progression from your Indigo moment)

I'm sure you've already come across these by now, but anyways...

Jem is lovely.

LetThereBeRock · 03/10/2010 23:10

Nairn
Silvanus
Roan
Bracken

I have a friend,in America, with a Mercury Alexander. I've always loved his name, though it's just as odd as Winter. I'd be unlikely to have used it myself, but I do like it.

lola0109 · 03/10/2010 22:56

I love Jem and Beau but you couldn't have Jem Beau Alexander as it would sound like Jimbo. And Beau Jem has initials BJ which is a no no!

What about Jem Winter Alexander?

I've been reading your threads so will now have to go and have a long think for you, whilst you enjoy your bath!

Love Sonnet Melody Rose BTW! :)

LetThereBeRock · 03/10/2010 22:52

I'd get that last post deleted if I were you Arizonagirl,or this thread will go off on another tangent.

arizonagirl · 03/10/2010 22:49

'choose' - sorry girls. Wouldn't usually bother to correct but know so many of you already have me down as some mental retard, that I wanted to prove I really can spell! Smile

jem is sooooo lovely. did you ever read to kill a mockingbird?

arizonagirl · 03/10/2010 22:46

OH NO!!!!!!

And I really did think we were there Sad

PatriciaHolm - I could curse you, but thank you for pointing out that the cypress tree is associated with cemeteries and funerals Shock. How can I possibly purposely chose Cypress now for my little bundle when I have all the names in the world to choose from. That would even seem more crazy than Winter -imo.

Not good and now the name Cypress is making me sad. AAAhhhh! My bath is damn cold now after all that googling about damn cypress trees. Don't know what to think now. Sad

Thanks for the sweet comments. And thanks for bearing with me - you folk have been my rock. Got a feeling the story isn't going to end just yet for boys.

Here's hoping for a girl. Atlas, Jupiter, Jem.....Winter. My brain hurts. At least I won't be so relaxed now and go into labour.
