I will be using it anyway, just trying to gauge opinion, as many mums now, or women younger than me pull their faces as if it were the most horrific name on earth.

Yet all the older people I tell seem to love it, am I giving her a name which will result in funny faces from her peers?

Would have considered it but it's my sister's name and my friend has just given the name to her daughter too. I went to school with a LOT of Elizabeths. I only know one who goes by the full name (and she's MOST insistent about it - anyone who calls her Liz gets short shrift). Most are either Liz, Lizzie or Beth.

It is classic. You can't go wrong with it. I prefer Elisa, though.

lowrib · 02/12/2010 15:19

I've always liked it because of the variety of NNs.

Komondor · 02/12/2010 14:18

Love it. I like Beth and Lily as nn's.

Love it. If ever have a daughter, that will be her name. She will be named after Miss Bennett. By a happy coincidence, it is also the name of the first British woman to graduate in medicine, so a kick ass name all round!

AphraBen · 01/12/2010 21:23

Ok! Grin

muminthemiddle · 30/11/2010 23:19

AphraBen-No my initials aren't JS :)

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 29/11/2010 10:52

Love it - (for me I liked nn Betsy) was on our list but we're having a boy so no chance to use it now.

AphraBen · 28/11/2010 23:41

goodness, muminthemiddle your initials aren't JS are they?

muminthemiddle · 28/11/2010 16:44

Can people stop using my dds name as I would hate it to become "common" :)

She is the only Elizabeth at school and we do call her Elizabeth although on occasion she is Princess Lillibet.

AphraBen · 28/11/2010 15:14

I completely love it. Its DDs middle name. I have two adult friends called Elizabeth and had two friends at school. Always loved it.

noddyholder · 28/11/2010 15:10

Beautiful name

onepieceoflollipop · 28/11/2010 14:59

Like it with a z, love it with an s.

(my least favourite abbreviation is Liz - don't like any z names particularly) so having an s means that Liz doesn't really work as a shortened form. :)

OsbegaEthewulf · 28/11/2010 14:58

Elizabeth is a strong, beautiful timeless name. I love it and I really wish I'd given it to my dd for her middle name

Lonnie · 28/11/2010 14:55

it is beautiful

BarbieLovesKen · 28/11/2010 14:23

Beautiful, timeless and classic. Absolutely gorgeous. Am very suprised that people have pulled faces at a name like Elizabeth!! Shock.

Im 25 btw Smile

EssieW · 28/11/2010 12:07

Beautiful name. Both DD and I have it as middle name. Did consider as first name but DH has cousin already. Love lizzie as short version.

MelinaM · 28/11/2010 12:02

Elizabeth is a truly beautiful name, classic yet versatile! ..and my middle nameWink x

typsical · 28/11/2010 11:55

I love it and love all the nicknames apart from Liz (and that's because I know a not very nice Liz!). Wondering... Is Betsy from Elizabeth...?

DandyDan · 06/10/2010 12:55

One of mine (secondary school age) has a best friend Elizabeth, who is generally called Lizzie, or Liz.

SpeedyGonzalez · 06/10/2010 12:03
