Whittled down girls list...views please

Due in two days time and seeking views on my final girls list:

Rosie, Rosella or Rosabelle?

Poppy?
Stella?
Isla (reserve name!)

Which name(s) suit a woman as much as a baby girl? Do any sound made up or are otherwise unsuitable for a lady?

Please post, I haven't got much energy left to think for myself!

I know that question wasn't addressed to me but I'll answer anyway!

Rosie-May is very frilly and girly, and doesn't solve the 'grown up name' issue. She needs a name she can give at interviews etc, and imo hyphenated names don't improve a nicknamey name.

Superness · 29/09/2010 20:39

Sorry should add, that our surname is a bit tricky and is only one syllable otherwise I think Rose would win the day and I wouldn't have to think of any other variations or names!

Thanks.

Skyrg - don't mind your honesty at all!

Runmeragged - when you write that Rosie is a bit babyish alone do you think I could/should add something to it like Rosie-May to make it less babyish or is the solution not using it at all?

I like Isla and Stella.

Haliborange · 29/09/2010 20:31

Stella and Isla are the ones that will suit throughout her life.

If you're keen on Rosie, call her Rosamund, Rosemary or Rosalind so she has a longer name for adulthood or can instead be called rose or Rosa. Rosella reminds be of rubella and Rosabelle does sound made up (sorry).

Poppy is a good name for a baby or a cat. I can't see it on an adult, or at least not one who isn't an art teacher!

Wheelybug · 29/09/2010 20:29

Other than Stella - all names we've had on long and short lists.

We discounted Rosie and Poppy (and dd1 was definitely going to be this for a while) because we didn't feel they were grown up names.

Isla was very very almost dd2's name (dd1 got to choose between that and another) so I would be biased for this name. Stella is lovely too.

I don't like Rosella or Rosabelle. Rose (nn Rosie) has a more grown up feel to it.

MrToad · 29/09/2010 20:29

IMHO Stella and Isla are the only ones that would suit a grown up.

runmeragged · 29/09/2010 20:27

Rosabelle sounds made up to me and a bit funny on a grown woman. I like Rosa on its own as the full name and it would be fine on a baby or an adult.

Rosie - bit babyish alone.

Rosella - sounds made up, don't like it.

Poppy - don't like, babyish.

Stella - just not a name I like, not sure why.

Isla - nice name, fine for any age.

readywithwellies · 29/09/2010 20:27

Like Isla, Poppy and Rosie. Rosella and Rosabelle sound like made up names and will be shortened to Rosie.
Stella ... Artois? Biscuit

Skyrg · 29/09/2010 20:27

I hope you don't mind me being honest!

Rosie is a nickname really, I think a 'real' name is definitely better for the birth certificate, she may appreciate when she's older. Not keen on Rosella, Rosabelle is very flowery, what if she's boyish? What about Rose, or Rosalyn? Rosemary?

Poppy I just can't see as an older woman, or even a teenager.

Stella reminds me of the beer and fashion models.

Isla I do like, but a lot of people seem to think it will date. I know one that's in her twenties.

HerHonesty · 29/09/2010 20:25

i am not sure about isla. dont like rosabelle or roseall sounds a bit made up. love rosie, rosalind, poppy and stella.
