herhonesty - i'm not sure what a zach looks like (am influenced by the fact that i know 2 other zachs)... but in the case of ds2, who looks like an edward not a zach, he looks quite serious and somehow old-fashioned...

OkieCokie · 21/09/2010 09:38

Would never pronounce Zach and Za-tch - the "h" is silent.

zachsmama · 20/09/2010 21:08

We have a Zachariah. We swap between Zach and Zachariah when talking to/about him. I tend to write Zach though because it's quicker Grin
We didn't like Zachary though and originally intended to call him Zachariah all the time btu we don't mind Zach, in fact it suits him :)

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/09/2010 17:02

Her, DS2 looks like a Zachary lol....piccy on profile

HerHonesty · 20/09/2010 15:57

what pray does a zach or zac or zak look like? or for that matter, what does an edward look like?

Would you pronounce Zach differently to Zac as in

Zac = Zak
Zach = Za-tch (like such or peach)

I wouldn't have thought so myself but the last post made me think...

jellybeans · 20/09/2010 14:21

Love it. Like Zachary aswell but I prefer short names for boys and i never used the long form of my name and it's annoying sometimes! I think the shortened version is more popular in the name charts, if you add all the spellings up it would be quite high in the charts but it's nowhere near as popular as Jack/Oliver etc. It's a strong name and not cutesy like Alfie/Archie etc which is a welcome change. I like all the spellings but the C softens it abit.

sophiesmummie · 20/09/2010 13:05

I agree, Ladysanders. You really don't use a middle name very often at all.

OkieCokie · 20/09/2010 12:30

Landysanders I would not worry if it is a middle name. How often do people really refer to middle names anyway?

LadySanders · 20/09/2010 12:04

mopsy - yes his first name is fine, but every time we get an official letter through with his middle initial on it, we sigh and say 'what were we thinking?'. he couldn't be any less zach-like... he looks like an 'edward', so you can see where the issue is!

TheLadyEvenstar · 20/09/2010 11:53

I love Zachary because it is DS2's name hehe and he is always called Zachary, never Zach

OkieCokie · 20/09/2010 11:37

I love Zac and Zachary. Really strong names.

sophiesmummie · 20/09/2010 11:35

I'm not keen on Zac/Zak/Zach - it does sound a little harsh not very elegant as a name.

Isaac is lovely though. Wouldn't shorten it though - it is short enough imo.

2babyblues · 20/09/2010 11:32

Our second is called Isaac. When he was first born we called him Zac but now we just call him Isaac. I really like it as a nickname, not sure how we stopped calling him it. Think it is because he was always referred to as baby Zac (due to older bro calling him that), so when he wasn't a baby anymore it didn't sound right to just call him Zac.

HeadingHome · 20/09/2010 11:29

oooh I like Isaac

mopsyflopsy · 20/09/2010 11:25

LadySanders, are you happy with your ds2's first name? I think that is much more important. You don't use the middle name very often anyway.

I think you can change a name within the first 12 months quite easily if you both feel so strongly about it.

GruffaloSoldier · 20/09/2010 11:23

DS (17months) is Zachary, or Zach for short. I tend to call him Zachary though. Always have had lovely comments about his name. :)

People always say how much it suits him aswell!

LadySanders · 20/09/2010 11:08

we named ds2 zach, having struggled to agree on anything.

for first 4 weeks of his life we called him nothing but 'roastie' which was ds1's nickname for him.

at 5 weeks somebody referred to him as Zach and dh and i both visibly shuddered.

at 6 weeks we were still arguing on the way to the registry office to register his birth.

he ended up, slightly randomly, with a different first name but Zach as a middle name.

we now HATE it and are almost considering legally changing his name.

i still think it's a nice name, but it absolutely doesn't suit him or us!

mopsyflopsy · 20/09/2010 11:03

I don't like the sound of Zac either. It sounds like Sack (of potatoes) and won't translate well into other languages.

I do like Zacharias very much, though.

hulabula · 20/09/2010 10:58

Isaac is lovely and rolls of the tongue easily. I definately wouldn't shorten Isaac to Saac or Sac Grin.

taintedpaint · 20/09/2010 10:57

I like Zachary, but couldn't use it because of the waste of perfectly good film HSM connection! If you're set on it, I would go for the full name though, Zac sounds too NN like to me.

Jojay · 20/09/2010 10:55

I like it.

Isaac is another option for the full name if you want one.

OhLuckyYou · 20/09/2010 10:55

I like it but it's become very popular lately...

Tortoise · 20/09/2010 10:54

Love it but that is because my DS2 is Zach (Zachary on Birth cert).

Hammy01 · 20/09/2010 10:51

I love Zak but then that's because my 3 yr old DS is a Zak (and no - its not short for Zachary Grin)

That's the wonderful thing about naming our children - not everyone loves the same names so there is variety!!
