Kit on its own for a boy because I hate Christopher?

Hello

I love the name Kit for a boy but am struggling with the fact that it's not a 'proper' name.. I keep reading that you should give chidlren 'proper' names, not a nickname!

Kit is usually short for Christopher or Christian - both of which do nothing for me at all...In fact I hate them both!

Can I get away with it?

Full name would be Kit William Duncan and no, can't use either William or Duncan as first name...

Help.

Yeah, i know a kit who's 13 and is just Kit. Although DH is Chris and I love his name - but I know it's not to everyone's cup of tea!

dh's grandfather was Kit short for Kitchener... as in Lord.
But I see no reason to have it as Kit only. It's a modern thing to have only the full name... if you look at 1901 (or thereabouts) top names you'll see Betty and Annie in there.

I don't like it when a name shortens to one with a different initial (like Christopher to Kit, or Elizabeth to Liz), which seems like another reason to have Kit only.

Yes yes yes, i love that name, i don't think i could use it, without being a bit creepy (back story i love love love the name Evie, have done for years, a little girl i looked after only sweetened the name for me, but can you guess what her brother is called). Any who yes do use it is such a nice name.

I really like it - it would be on my shortlist, but it is too similar to my name.
I love Jem, but am in a similar position in that I don't really like any of the long forms (although Jeremiah is growing on me).
Go for it!

DH is Kit, just Kit with no 'proper' first name and has never had any problems with it. People do occasionally ask if it really isn't short for anything but that's all.
Kit William Duncan sounds lovely to me :)

I am all for just using the name you like and not having to have the "proper" name. Sounds good to me Smile
