Are there many newborn Emilys at the minute or is it slightly older ones? Round here I don't know any babies, but according to the last stats (2008??) it is really really popular, so a little confused! How about where you are?

No, the stats don't lump names together. Even the different spellings of Emily (Emilie etc.) are counted separately.

I think people are saying that the whole 'family' of names is everywhere at the moment, so even if there weren't many Emilys in your town it would still blend in with all the similar names.

Ooo, is the reason Emily's so high that it also includes Millie, Amelia etc...? How would I find that out? That could explain it then as I know quite a few of those but no Emily's- the only Emily's being grown women and girls over 5 at least.

Bunny we're in Yorkshire also, where are you? Maybe your area is much classier than ours!

Remember that even the most "popular" names aren't actually that common!

There are several Emilys in my 14 year old dd's circle, and 2 in my ds's year 5 group of 60 - but it'a a lovely name - if you like it it doesn't matter if there happens to be another one in her year at school

Lovely name. I also see it on the top ten lists but have yet to meet any baby Emilys. I have lots of friends with that name though (I am 32)

I'm in Herfordshire and its not so popular here amongst babies. Most Emilys I know are over 8. I really like it.

BuntyPenfold · 17/09/2010 10:44

If you are including Millie, Amelia etc, then I know lots.

10 a penny round here (W Yorks).

Very overused and imo boring name.

suwoo · 17/09/2010 10:40

I know three here in North Manchester. One is 6 weeks old and spelt Emilie.

sedgiebaby · 17/09/2010 10:33

Yes, in the south west

muggglewump · 17/09/2010 10:29

Very, as are Amelia, Amelie, Emilia, Millie, so they all sound similar.
Am near Glasgow.

BuntyPenfold · 17/09/2010 10:27

Sorry, that wasn't a help; in the deep SW on the moors.

BuntyPenfold · 17/09/2010 10:26

I know 2 of about 5 years old, one spelt Emilee. I don't know any babies.
