What do you reckon?

Personally, I dislike it.

Notyetamummy · 02/10/2010 16:33

I don't think Buddy on it's own is too bad - it's the fact that's it's combined with Bear & Maurice!

That, and the unfortunate initials.

KAEKAE · 02/10/2010 15:00

CharlieBoo - Oliver Oliver, even worse than Buddy Oliver I reckon.

meadowlarks · 02/10/2010 11:25

I know a Bud, so I can't say I think it's too terrible. I actually like Bear on its own, but the two together sound like a toy.

hulabula · 02/10/2010 08:59

It's not to my taste personally, but I find it nicer than lots of other popular names mentioned on here (e.g. Willy) and I don't think kids will find Buddy particularly teaseworthy.

kidshurt · 02/10/2010 07:58

My 4yr old son is called Buddy, we love his name and everyone where we live have got used to it. We wanted a name that wasn't popular but that also wasn't to out there.

pogleswife · 17/09/2010 09:43

Dont mind Buddy so much, after all there are some cool namesakes : Buddy Holly, Buddy Rich, Buddy Guy - but the initials B.O. would have been a deal breaker for me.

nooka · 17/09/2010 06:39

Buddy is what all the dogs around here are called. OK (ish) as a nickname, but I think this will be horribly difficult to live with, however posh/bohemian his schools are. I'd associate it with the other end of the spectrum in any case.

Hulababy · 16/09/2010 21:37

It;s not to my taste personally.

noddyholder · 16/09/2010 21:36

He will be called Bud which is a bit US thus i don't like it Buddy is sweet though and they are hardly going to live a conventional life as they are celebs and mega rich so there will be plenty of similar names in their contemporaries at school and socially.

A1980 · 16/09/2010 21:32

It's absolutely horrendous to name a child Buddy Bear. It sounds like a name for the family pet.

What is it with parents who aren't even content with unusual names, they have go ludicrous?!

What would any grown man prefer? Buddy Bear or John, Mark, David, etc. Exactly!

SirBoobAlot · 16/09/2010 19:53

He's going to change his name to Jack when he is 18. Bet you...

PaigeTurner · 16/09/2010 19:11

"On the streets" (as it were) Buddy is a popular greeting at the moment, like geez and bruv.

I like the Bear bit though.

ValiumSingleton · 16/09/2010 17:28

.... and nobody calls their baby Buddy if they're paranoid that their choice might be............ Shock discussed

5DollarShake · 16/09/2010 17:27

Imagine the poor lad saying his vows on his wedding day, having to say his whole name. Seriously, I'd rip my parents a new one for that! Grin

Fermina - it's a discussion forum. More specifically, it's the Baby Names forum. Babies names will get discussed!

ValiumSingleton · 16/09/2010 17:13

I like it as a nick name, but Buddy is a bit like a put down. Now see here sonny /buddy.

It was never going to be Marcus or Patrick or anything like that I guess.

beccagrace2 · 16/09/2010 16:53

i really like it, much nicer than his girls names, poppy and daisy, meh, petal just strange. not sure about bear tho

CharlieBoo · 16/09/2010 16:35

There's no pleasing you lot! I thought the 'brave' option was good? Or are we all agreed that a top 10 name would be a much more safe? Oliver, Jack or Buddy? Mmmmm let me think .....

getstuffed · 16/09/2010 16:29

Annnnndddd... why does Jooooools always have to look so bloody fresh faced a perfect the day after, ffs.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 16/09/2010 16:28

FFS. It's none of anyone's business apart from the parents Angry

No, it's not to my taste but WTF. Should they have held a referendum?

getstuffed · 16/09/2010 16:25

Buddy bear, that's not going to be cringe worthy at 18, 6''2 and 16 stone, is it? Poor sod.

mathanxiety · 16/09/2010 15:55

Etymologically speaking, Buddy may come from the Irish word for penis 'bod' pronounced 'bud' and possibly used as a derisive term for a boss by Irish labourers, just as 'Sir' was ('sor', pronounced 'sir', meaning 'louse'), or maybe from 'bodach', meaning a churl, a clown, a thorn in the side, a bogeyman of sorts.

notso · 16/09/2010 13:47

I very nearly almost considered Buddy for DC3 as am due before Christmas, Elf is my favourite Christmas film and DH likes Sonny which I don't think is far off Buddy. I also have a surname beginning with O though and B.O is mean.
kreecher I would imagine they will go to schools with Apples, Coco's, Scouts and the like so Buddy will not stand out so much.
