A little help would be appreciated - what do you think of the name Digby for our possible DS1 (4 weeks to go)? Our surname begins with D as well - not sure if DMPD would work as initials.

My preferred alternatives would be Frederick (Freddie) or Benedict (Dickie) which I like because you can shorten them, but no such convenience with Digby - unless it is to 'Dig' which i don't like........

Help!!!

AmandaCooper · 14/09/2010 22:03

Tee hee I secretly like it! I might add it to my list of names DH would never agree to!

FellatioNelson · 14/09/2010 22:02

Is no-one put off by this?

autodidact · 14/09/2010 22:01

That was to FrenchLimeBlossom, not seeker.:)

autodidact · 14/09/2010 21:59

lol. You jest, surely?

seeker · 14/09/2010 21:57

"I love the name Dickie and am not put off by the thought of anyone sniggering, I never have and I know about 4 of them!"

But you're not a 9 year old boy. Find one and ask. Honestly.

And if you're not put off by the sniggering that's fine, but you're making the decision for someone else who may not be so strong willed.

FellatioNelson · 14/09/2010 20:51

It's quirky, and a bit too obviously posh, but I like it.

Bumbler · 14/09/2010 20:50

Hideous, I agree!

Panzee · 14/09/2010 20:47

I also thought Sir Digby Chicken Caesar. "To the slotties!" :o

allyfe · 14/09/2010 20:45

I actually like Digby. I remember the film, but none of your son's generation will.

I do agree that Dickie is a bad idea - both from the perspective of childrens teasing but also because I just don't like it.

LiquoriceLila · 14/09/2010 20:21

Digby and Dickie are both terrible names. Sorry

RamblingRosa · 14/09/2010 19:45

Digby Jones. Not good connotations for me.

bluebump · 14/09/2010 19:36

My friend just called her dog Digby.

KERALA1 · 14/09/2010 19:33

I love it

MrsJohnDeere · 14/09/2010 17:22

Biggest dog in the world is what springs into my mind.

Freddie is lovely though IMO.

blinder · 14/09/2010 17:13

Don't draw boars that's just silly. (bloody iPhone)

blinder · 14/09/2010 17:12

What Emo said. You might not snigger but ALL his peers will. Dickie of all things. That's just asking for trouble. Please go back to the drawing boars.

Good luck with the birth etc!

Galena · 14/09/2010 17:11

I know a 3-year old Digby. Makes me smile whenever I hear his mum call him - I love the name, but wouldn't use it myself.

Emo76 · 14/09/2010 16:57

Would not encourage the shortening of Benedict to Dickie...your son will NOT thank you!

daisystone · 14/09/2010 16:16

cartoon dog was my first impression.

Judging by the other dog posts, we are all of the same opinion.

Hideous.

blinder · 14/09/2010 15:37

We have a Digby in our family (man in his fifties). Sill means a dog to me

PaulineCampbellJones · 14/09/2010 15:35

Now have "Digby the biggest dog in the world" song going round my head. Rememberhim driving an ice cream van?
Benedict is a fantastic name.

FrenchLimeBlossom · 14/09/2010 15:31

Ah wow - thanks everyone!

Not remotely offended by contra views, each to their own. To be honest we are a bit of a Boden-wearing, Guardian-reading, Waitrose-shopping family anyway so middle-class connotations do not scare us at all Wink

I think some of you are thinking of Digby the biggest dog in the world Smile - well that's not a bad association to make.

I must say I hate Benedict being shortened to Ben (although if it is a boy, and he prefers Ben to Dickie once he is old enough to choose then it's his choice I guess!). I love the name Dickie and am not put off by the thought of anyone sniggering, I never have and I know about 4 of them!
