So - Got a little man on the way in ten weeks time! Wish he would hurry up now - I'm over the pregnancy thing now.. !

So, I am toying with the following, please be honest and let me know which you prefer:

Freddie
Francis
Sonny
Alexander
Dennis
Laurence

I guess I could combine a couple... It's such pressure deciding on a name for a human being, isn't it? x

Alexander - great name. Alex great nn too.

MumseyPoos · 10/09/2010 09:52

Alexander

DomesticG0ddess · 10/09/2010 09:48

Love Freddie (and I know an adult one too), also like Fred. Like Sonny too, becoming more popular. The others are a bit bland, and I think Dennis is a no no. Just makes me think of Dirty Den, Little Den and Dennis the Menace.

charley24 · 10/09/2010 00:16

Don't wish your pregnancy away, I know you have said in jest but it's really harsh on mums like myself who have had the trauma of a premature child.
Your baby is cooking inside nicely and isn't ready yet, I know it's tough but he will come when he is ready! Just have yourself a nice rest and enjoy the sleep !

Alex would be my choice !

allyfe · 09/09/2010 11:39

Freddie - okay for baby/child if Fredrick is actual name (then he can choose later)
Francis - Really don't like - sorry!
Sonny - Also not keen
Alexander - Love. Classic but cool.
Dennis - Really don't like
Laurence - ok

I like the Alexander Lawrence suggestion above.

Happy naming :)

Imagine being a mamager of a team of cheeky lads and your name is Sonny. Honestly. Don't.

Imagine being an old man desperately trying to cling on to your dignity being looked after by a succession of mediocre carers who call you Sonny.

Why is it even thought of as a name? It's an old fashioned pet name at best, and what the police call criminals in things like Heartbeat at worst.

summery · 09/09/2010 09:48

Love Sonny or next favourite is Laurence. Think Laurie is great as a shortened name for a boy.

Not keen on any of the others with Alexander being my least favourite.

CharlieBoo · 09/09/2010 09:47

LOVE Freddie, my 7 year old godson is Freddie and it sooo suits him. I agree, Freddie, Archie, Charlie would have been very common place 70-80 years ago for adult males, I don't get this whole babyish thing!! Ps Freddie is a cool name for an adult in business.

Psammead · 09/09/2010 09:43

In order of preference:

Alexander and Laurence from your list - Francis at a push.

Freddie is nice, but I personally would have Frederick on the birth certificate. Sonny is ok.

Dennis is dreadful - apologies if it's a family name or something. If it's an important name for you, perhaps consider it as a middle name?

Rapscallion · 09/09/2010 07:50

Thanks for the replies, people! Hmm.. A bit of a mixed response to Dennis then! I don't know why, I just love the name!

Freddie Francis is my winner so far... If he hates Freddie, then he can call himelf Frank or Frankie!

Of course, I DO have ten more weeks to decide, and as someone rightly pointed out, I could change my mind altogether when he pops out.

My other son is Nathaniel and I was going to call him James until I saw him....

All are great, except Dennis!

NotanOtter · 08/09/2010 22:29

laurence - know lovely toddler and teen

jellybeans · 08/09/2010 22:26

Freddie..like but not keen on Frederick
Francis...dislike, bit unisex
Sonny...love it
Alexander...OK but dull, may get 'Al'
Dennis...awful, middle aged
Laurence...dreadful

LaDiDaDi · 08/09/2010 22:06

Alexander, Lawrence or Francis.

EleFunTess · 08/09/2010 22:04

Not Dennis!

Freddie is quite popular and kind of, I dunno, fashionable I suppose? I like it, though.
Sonny is sweet, but not to my taste. I'd have it if it was sbort for Nelson.

Alexander is nice. Like Alex.

Francis is great. Frankie is a brilliant nickname.

I'm not a huge fan of Laurence - a bit wet - but I love Laurie.

seeker · 08/09/2010 22:01

Frederick is good - give him options.

There is no excuse for calling someong who will spend most of his life as an adult male Sonny.

Dennis is ghastly.

The others are fine. Francis can be shortened to Frank or Frankie, which are good, if a little trendy.

Hulababy · 08/09/2010 21:43

Freddie - I like this a lot, and Fred. I am less keen on Frederick or Alfred though and not sure if I would use Fred as a full name. I see Freddie as being a shortning really rather than a full name.

littlemisslozza · 08/09/2010 21:42

I have a Freddie but he is Frederick on his birth certificate. We never ever call him that but thought it would be better when he is an adult applying for jobs etc... Remember, there will be loads of Alfies, Archies, Charlies around so I don't think it these names will sound 'babyish' when he grows up, they will be quite acceptable.

I also have an Alexander so I think it's obvious which two names I like the best. I like Laurence too, although I prefer the spelling Lawrence.

FWIW neither of our baby boys were named until we actually met them and could see what suited them, I wouldn't stress about it too much yet.

minipie · 08/09/2010 21:33

Alexander or Laurence.

Like Freddie but as nn. If you don't like Frederick then how about Alfred or just Fred?

MollysChambers · 08/09/2010 21:32

Love Sonny.

MollysChambers · 08/09/2010 21:32

Love Sonny.

BelligerentGhoul · 08/09/2010 21:31

Love Laurence. Not fond of any of the others, sorry.
