So - Got a little man on the way in ten weeks time! Wish he would hurry up now - I'm over the pregnancy thing now.. !

So, I am toying with the following, please be honest and let me know which you prefer:

Freddie
Francis
Sonny
Alexander
Dennis
Laurence

I guess I could combine a couple... It's such pressure deciding on a name for a human being, isn't it? x

Stanley is a fine name, Pixie. I considered it for ds, 10 years ago (only mention the 10 years to demonstrate that I lied it then and still like it now).

pointy is so very right - Denny is excellent. I hadn't thought of that as a diminutive - my freinds Denis is Denny, but that's because he's French (so obv. more a duh-nee).

Denny is effing brilliant.

AngryPixie · 11/09/2010 15:17

I love Dennis (tis' ds1 middle name and if I knew I was going to have ds2 I might have kept it)

But then I love stanley too so perhaps should not be trusted Grin

have a dgs Francis known as Frank or Frankie-it works really well in all its versions-would be good with Alexander or Laurence too.

lowrib · 11/09/2010 14:33

Denny's great

pointydog · 11/09/2010 11:51

ok. Let's stick with Denny and Vincent then.

BelligerentGhoul · 11/09/2010 09:20

I like Denny. AND Vincent. But I hate Vince.

pointydog · 10/09/2010 23:04

oh c'mon.

Denny. Think about it.

verybadhairdoo · 10/09/2010 23:03

Alexander is lovely. Sonny and Dennis and Freddie def not

pointydog · 10/09/2010 22:03

The more I think about it, the more I realise that Denis (Denny) is a fantastic name.

Although I would still go for Vincent (Vince)

pointydog · 10/09/2010 22:01

Freddie - no, too nice but dim
Francis - don't like it for a boy but do like the female version. It's just a bit scrubbed and Catholic so I wouldn't feel it was for me
Sonny - no, too fashionista
Alexander - I like Alex a lot
Dennis - I really quite like Denis. I think the nickname Denny is great.
Laurence - ok. Laurie is ok but a bit girly

Clary · 10/09/2010 21:57

Just to be clear - Dennis is similar to Trevor and Brian. I do not like the names Tervor or Brian; well not on a child atm anyway.

Clary · 10/09/2010 21:56

Of your choices I like Freddie best Grin. Nickname for Frederick tho IMO. Don't have to call him that ever!

I agree in future yrs there will be lots of Alfies, Archies, Billys etc.

Alexander is pretty popular - I know a good half a dozen under 11. There were two Alex Smiths at DS1's nursery! (mind you that's a while ago)

Dennis sounds like a 60yo, sorry. Like Trevor and Brian.

Laurence is quite funky with good nickname potential. Laurie my fave in a nod to Little Women.

bluebeach · 10/09/2010 21:40

Love Freddie, could choose Alfred if not keen on Frederick.

BelligerentGhoul · 10/09/2010 21:37

Albie, dd1 would have been Laurie, had she been a ds. It is a gorgeous name. :)

allbie · 10/09/2010 20:00

Laurence definitely! I have a Laurie.

mathanxiety · 10/09/2010 15:13

Sonny is like Buddy or Junior.

liliputlady · 10/09/2010 14:29

Alexander

sparkle12mar08 · 10/09/2010 13:27

Francis Alexander Laurence - lovely!

TessOfTheBurbs · 10/09/2010 10:47

No, it's just like "sonny-boy", from the word son. "Now you listen to me, Sonny Jim", etc. People have sometimes used it as a nickname for other names like Sonny in The Godfather was really Santino, and Sonny Bono was Salvatore, and I'm sure Solomons might have used it too, but it's not tied to any particular name - just an all-purpose nickname.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 10/09/2010 10:40

Sonny is a proper name though, isn't it? Or is it a diminutive of Solomon?

TessOfTheBurbs · 10/09/2010 10:30

Freddie - love this with Frederick on bc, however it is very very popular if that bothers you.
Francis - OK
Sonny - Oh no, it's just a casual nickname that you can call your son whatever his name is, give him something to fall back on. I think it's the male equivalent of "Princess" or "Honey".
Alexander - nice, a modern classic
Dennis - I don't know, it could grow on me actually.
Laurence - Love Laurie for a nickname, but prefer Lawrence spelling for full name.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 10/09/2010 10:09

alot? Good lord. A lot. Two words. Blush

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 10/09/2010 10:08

Love Francis, and I like Dennis alot too. I know a baby Denis, but he's a French Duhn-ee; because he's French not because his mum is a Blondie fan, but I'm not sure if the rest of the world is ready for it, iykwim.

Alexander is a good, solid, safe name. Laurence also. I like Laurie.

Nothing wrong with Freddyie but there there are lots of them in some circles (again, nothing wrong with that) and it reminds me of those twats on the Archers (one of their twins is Freddie) so I couldn't possibly contemplate it Grin

I'm also finding it hard to imagine an adult Freddie - Frederick doesn't sit right somehow. Although Fred is good.

Sonny is cute and cool - which I'm inclined to think is a good thing but others might disagree.

Loujalou · 10/09/2010 09:55

Dennis Bergkamp - he is like god in my family but not sure I could name a child that. Also, little dirty den was quite fit. Still not convinced.
