Names you KNOW are perfectly nice but which you have an irrational hatred for

I'll go first-

Anne/Anna
Nancy

I don't know why I feel such a strong dislike for them! Perfectly nice normal names logically but for me.......no. To say the least.

Apologies to any parents of Annas or Nancys, I know I am the freakish one for feeling this way!

Figured everyone would have at least one name like this?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh well, DS's name has been mentioned twice and my middle name (Ruth), but then I don't like Ruth either so don't really care.

I also don't like names that are short for something else being the actual given name-someone's already mentioned ones like Alfie, Archie etc.

The only name I really can't stand is Angela. I hate it and it's completely irrational. Of course there are other names I wouldn't choose for my DC, but that's the only one I do really and truly loathe. Sorry to any Angelas out there!

Thomas

MarineIguana · 07/09/2010 23:56

Elephants that's so true about men called Chris! All the ones I have met have been a bit worrisome. While women called Chris tend to be fleecy-wearing dog-lovers.

Wanderingsheep · 07/09/2010 23:32

Oh and I don't hate them but names that should be the shortened version of something but are actually the given name,

Archie
Alfie etc.

Wanderingsheep · 07/09/2010 23:30

I don't usually participate in these kinds of threads, as I don't like to offend but DD's name is always mentioned and as mine and DD's names have been mentioned, fuck it, here goes:

Olivia! It reminds me of Olive oil and I don't understand why there are so many! So there! Grin

perfumedlife · 07/09/2010 23:29

Never met a Ryan or Jamie i liked. Nor an Ellie, Alexander or Joshua.

Love plain names like Andrew, Drew, Michael, Francis

Way too many contrived names around, sad sacks thinking Molly is the last word in originality,

3isthemagicnumber · 07/09/2010 23:25

and my particulars..

Lewis
Harley
Theo
Alfie
George

Ellie
Jasmine
Lauren
Rosie
anything-Mae

disclamer- not related to any child in particular, have met lovely people named most of these..

3isthemagicnumber · 07/09/2010 23:21

AnyFuleKno · 07/09/2010 23:20

Oliver...I don't get why it's so popular

AnyFuleKno · 07/09/2010 23:20

Oliver...I don't get why it's so popular

thirstymerc · 07/09/2010 23:16

Hmm, my name and DD's beautiful Shock Grin name have already had a mention so here's my hate-list...

Caitlin
Abigail
Ellie

Ethan (think 'Eeeefffannn' being shouted out in supermarkets and playgrounds has ruined this one for me)
Ben
Thomas
Jayden
Kieran

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 07/09/2010 23:14

Simon
Ian

They remind me of sweaty Sales Directors who say things like 'for my sins' and use 'myself' and 'yourself' rather than 'me' or 'you'. And play golf.

CornishKK · 07/09/2010 23:10

Demelza. Either insane or unclean IME.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 07/09/2010 23:04

Aaron and Zachary.

Smacks of laziness.

Pareents opens Treasury of Baby Names at beginning/end: "Oh that'll do."

jonicomelately · 07/09/2010 22:59

Ethan, Joshua, Craig, Nicholas, Alfie.

Emma, Susan, Amy, Bethany, Ella, Ava.

HuwEdwards · 07/09/2010 22:59

Crikey, will offend EVERYONE here..I don't particularly like girls names ending in 'ey' or 'ie' or that sound. So, Kirsty, Kayleigh, Esme, Lilly etc.

tudorrose · 07/09/2010 22:58

Thomas. I only know nice ones too, its odd. I have no idea why but I just can't stand it!

smother · 07/09/2010 22:58

Nancy too for me.
Noah
Daisy

May be back with more...

pranma · 07/09/2010 22:54

Tracey,Joanne,[dd is Joanna and I hated the confusion],any of those K names like Kylie,Kaley,Keira,Kelly
my own horrible first name-not telling but begins with V and was popular in 40s and 50s
Darren,Wayne,Jason,Shane,Dale
I was a teacher and those names haunted my nightmares in the 80s

suwoo · 07/09/2010 22:53

I'll do mine then, but I have too many to think of...

Alfie
Archie
Freya
Jamie
Adam
Jayden
Caden
Callum

Will undoubtedly be back with more.

A1980 · 07/09/2010 22:49

I am so SO sorry as I know it's popular but I can't stand Ophelia. It just smacks of
effort and doesn't sound very nice.

Sunlightdances · 07/09/2010 22:39

Nicholas - always hated that name.
Natasha - total cows, every one that I've met!
