Names you KNOW are perfectly nice but which you have an irrational hatred for

I'll go first-

Anne/Anna
Nancy

I don't know why I feel such a strong dislike for them! Perfectly nice normal names logically but for me.......no. To say the least.

Apologies to any parents of Annas or Nancys, I know I am the freakish one for feeling this way!

Figured everyone would have at least one name like this?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Flighttattendant · 08/09/2010 10:53

Oh God yes

Cameron and Atticus

why? Oh why, oh why. I want to be able to say 'Ooh what a lovely name!' but you are spoiling it. Please use something else so I won't have to be disingenuous. Wink

greentriangle · 08/09/2010 10:53

My name, DH's name and both our DC's names are featured here Grin!

Flighttattendant · 08/09/2010 10:51

Oh gosh, millions.

Ellie, yes

and Ella

and Isabella - I used to love it! I don't know what changed.

Chloe

Phoebe

Marie

Stephanie

Claire

I could go on and on.

MarineIguana · 08/09/2010 10:49

A thread that invites you to slag off baby names though - how can we possibly retrain ourselves? And it hasn't even kicked off (while all kinds of innocent threads about dusting or cheese strings go ballistic)

FellatioNelson · 08/09/2010 10:39

As predicted this has just turned into a thread about which name bore you, or you wouldn't choose for all sorts of reasons to do with class or popularity. Or which names you love to wear your best judgeypants over. We already have enough of those threads thanks!

I rigidly stuck to the rules and only put names I had an irrational dislike of. If I'd allowed judgemental self-indulgence to creep in I could have filled 10 pages by myself.Angry

Sort yourselves out.Grin

ShadeofViolet · 08/09/2010 10:37

Ellie - really pretty name but the name of the girl that bullied me all trough primary school so I just cant get passed it.

perfumedlife · 08/09/2010 10:33

Fenton Shock

Why for gods sake?

Hazeyjane · 08/09/2010 10:17

Zozzle, I think that might be all of the children in dd1s class at school!

One post mentions my name and dd2s name!

I just can't bring myself to hate any names, irrationally or otherwise. I know that if I come up with a name, I will meet someone with the name, and they will be lovely, and I will feel awful and yadayadayada.....

Edmundo · 08/09/2010 10:17

Alfie, Archie, Charlie, Freddie, Billy, Harry, Bobby, Theo, Jake, Jack and all nicknames without proper first names.

Liam, Joshua, Ethan, Callum, Zach/Zachary, Luke, Michael, Daniel, Benjamin.

Ellie (really hate this), Millie, Tilly and all those annoying twee nicknames! Chloe, Lauren, Jessica, Olivia, Holly, Heather, Layla/Leila/Lyla/Lila....

MarineIguana · 08/09/2010 10:17

Ooh Beverley. I knew a Beverley when I was little and it was naff then. Imagine calling a baby that now! "Baby Bev".

This thread is extraordinarily rude but fun

zozzle · 08/09/2010 10:04

Isabelle/Isabella and all their variants, Amelia, Olivia, Lucy, Emily, Lily, Tilly, Millie, Amy, Ellie (although quite like Eleanor), Jessica, Leanne, Joanne (although like Joanna), Nancy, Evie, Ava.

Kyle, Josh, Kieran, Jayden, Archie, Alfie, Jason, Mark.

Might be back ...

HowsTheSerenity · 08/09/2010 08:45

Amanda, Yvonne, Nadine. All evil bitches at school.

washngo · 08/09/2010 08:45

The only two saras I've ever known pronounced the first bit to rhyme with car. My archie is archibald on his birth certificate (which I know many many people will think makes it worse as I'm being told all the time!). I must confess I do prefer his name the way my family who are Scottish say it, as opposed to how it gets said down south where we live. As for names I irrationally dislike it's amelia for me-I find it hard to say nicely (and I really do think that's my specific problem!)

MuddledMum · 08/09/2010 08:40

As my adorable little boy's name has been mentioned (shame on you all) I now feel perfectly entitled to offer up the following irrationally irksome names...
Ivy - poisonous
Hazel - nut or nutter
Meredith - the irritating one from Grey's Anatomy.

Boys - anyone who calls their sons the same names as mine hence leading to them becoming over popular and on lists like this!! Hate that. Stick to your Atticus and Wolfgangs please then they can end up in the top 10 and we can all feel free to mock them mercilessly!
((runs off to hide behind sofa in case anyone shouts))

FellatioNelson · 08/09/2010 08:12

Beverley Yvette Kimberley Patricia Charmaine

Lily Amy Natalie

Luke Rhys Liam Kyle

Dean Lee Warren

Wanderingsheep · 08/09/2010 08:03

Oh, wanted to add Cameron.

Lovely boys name in itself but it means crooked nose. Why would you want to call your child crooked nose?!? Confused

LarkinSky · 08/09/2010 06:03

Yes, any name that is actually a surname used as a first name (USA worst culprit here) really, really riles me.

Otherwise it's only names that have bad associations for me, in that people I knew with the same name were/are 'orrible!

Here's a few: Jimmy, Kirsten, Beverley, John, Howard.

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 08/09/2010 04:53

Alfie - should be Alfred
Charlie - should be Charles
Jamie - should be James
Taylor, Maddison, Harrison, Bailey, Mckenzie, Jackson - should be surnames

mathanxiety · 08/09/2010 04:39

Georgia
Jessica
Catherine with a C.

LOL at mucus -- I dislike Marcus too.

YunoYurbubson · 08/09/2010 03:47

I don't like Marcus.

A good friend of mine is pg with a baby boy and plans to call him Marcus. I have been a gushing fountain of enthusiasm and thumbs up.

It just sounds like Mucus to me.

And what is this two ways to pronounce Sara / Sarah madness?

AddictedToRadley · 08/09/2010 03:12

Doing well so far as my ds's first name's not here! Phew! Although his middle name is but then again it is his daddy's name (not my choice.....) and a very VERY popular, highly overused name from the 70's. Shut up Radley before dh reads this thread......

Anyway there are quite a lot of names that I dislike for my child but the only one I can think of that I hate dislike as a rule is:

Candida

Sorry to all Candidas out there but it reminds me of thrush! Blush

morgan55 · 08/09/2010 01:56

i really hate all the ridicolously overused names like:
isabelle
jessica
ruby
maisie
ellie

charlie
jack
ben
oliver
alfie

but the one name that i absolutely cannot stand and think is unappealing in every way is archie. yuck!

AnxiousLand · 08/09/2010 01:08

Coralie
Mackenzie

all the chav names basically or what i consider chavvy

superdragonmama · 08/09/2010 00:59

Names that only really suit babies:

Daisy
Alfie
Billy

And irrational dislikes include

Ian
Jayne, with a 'y'
Wayne
Darren
Araminta

Seasons/weather: Summer, Autumn, Sunny etc

anonymosity · 08/09/2010 00:36

I hate
Tilly / Milly
and any names that are the noun for a fruit or vegetable, or a condiment - or Honey, Toffee etc (arrghh!)

poncy ponce ponce ponce!
