Names you KNOW are perfectly nice but which you have an irrational hatred for

I'll go first-

Anne/Anna
Nancy

I don't know why I feel such a strong dislike for them! Perfectly nice normal names logically but for me.......no. To say the least.

Apologies to any parents of Annas or Nancys, I know I am the freakish one for feeling this way!

Figured everyone would have at least one name like this?

Lewis - just cannot see the attraction. Like Louis (Lou-ee) though.

Rhys/Reece - when I hear this name its like chalk screeching down a blackboard.

Ewan - yuck

Rhiann - awful

newmum265 · 08/09/2010 16:59

lol this is really funny. I do believe every name ever suggested has been mentioned here. My little bundles name has not thankfully. I wasnt going to partake but darn it I just cant help myself.
My friend called her little girl Lara- I just cant find a way of liking it. I actually find it hard to say - dont know why- I dont have a lisp or anything!
Boys name - many- but of the top lists at the mo- probably Alfi- Its cute and all, for a little cute boy- and maybe for a trendy teenager..but for an older man I just dont get it. SOrry if Ive offended! xx

Do I get full marks for having my first name and surname on this thread? :o Not that I mind, it's not as if I chose them.

Forgot Ella - yes it's a nice name I'm sure, but it rhymes with little heller, yeller, smeller etc. Plus sounds really whiney hyphenated up - Lily-Ella, just sounds like you have eaten too much peanut butter and got your tongue in a twist.

And when did May start being spelt Mae, and why?

And hyphenated Louise - it's pronounced Loo Wheeze, what's appealing about hacking up phlegm in the bog?

wisteria12 · 08/09/2010 11:43

Oh, and I am a proud mother to an Atticus, by the way. Wink

anonymousbird · 08/09/2010 11:42

Michelle.

Actually it isn't even that nice, but I do have an irrational hatred.

wisteria12 · 08/09/2010 11:38

Haha. My name's been on here about 10 times. Only one of my DC's is though, shock horror. Must try harder Grin

Now, I don't wish to offend anyone because I know this is a common name, and I hasten to add that my hatred of it is irrational, but I truly, truly despise the name:

Imogen.

Eurgh eurgh eurgh. It's like someone's looked at the word "imagine" and thought; "I know, I'll insert a syllable that has connotations of whinge, midge and whinging midgets all at once!" Arghhhh.

gagamama · 08/09/2010 11:36

As per the thread title, I KNOW they are perfectly nice but just have an irrational dislike of them.

FellatioNelson · 08/09/2010 11:34

I love Ophelia ans Seraphina!

gagamama · 08/09/2010 11:31

I second Ophelia (for all your pretensions, she will just end up being called 'Offy' by the time she's 13) and Seraphina.

Also irrational dislike of boys names ending in 'us' - Atticus, Cassius, Augustus and the like.

Wanderingsheep · 08/09/2010 11:21

Pmsl at "Poppy = knicker sniffer" Grin

I think my DD's name has been mentioned every third post! Angry You bastards! Grin

Remotew · 08/09/2010 11:09

Right that's it my lovely nieces lovely name has been mentioned twice so here goes:-

Joshua, the women in the maternity bed next to me took ages to name her newborn son then came up with this which was overused at the time. Why? Also don't like the 'sh' sound.
Jessica for much the same reason.

Carn't think of any girls names I really don't like. Lots I wouldn't use personally but nothing nasty about them. I have the worst first name in the world so everything sounds prettier than mine. Christine and Jackie are equally as bad as mine.

Lavitabellissima · 08/09/2010 10:59

Poppy

I went on school camp with one and she used to sniff her knickers each morning to see if they were clean Hmm

Every time I hear the name Poppy = Knicker sniffer Blush

ShadeofViolet · 08/09/2010 10:59

So is mine greentriangle.
