Names you KNOW are perfectly nice but which you have an irrational hatred for

I'll go first-

Anne/Anna
Nancy

I don't know why I feel such a strong dislike for them! Perfectly nice normal names logically but for me.......no. To say the least.

Apologies to any parents of Annas or Nancys, I know I am the freakish one for feeling this way!

Figured everyone would have at least one name like this?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Arthur. Hate it especially how its pronounced round 'ere in mockney central arrrrfarrr! arf a what? is always my response... can't help it.

Kaydence- sounds so twee

All the double barrell names ending in Mae/May/Mai

anything ending in Ayden- you all know what ones Grin

Jordan

Constance
Esme
Clementine
Archie especially when double barrelled with Lee, it sounds so try-hard

Lacey/Kacie/Macie etc

I'm sure I can think of a few more! DD's name appeared a few times [shrug]

prozacfairy · 08/09/2010 20:42

Oh and Susan. I hate the name Susan. Can't believe I forgot it. Probably because in my head my dislike is rational Grin

prozacfairy · 08/09/2010 20:39

Gemma
Caitlyn- mostly because MIL kept suggesting it while I was pregnant even though We had vetoed it 200 other times she brought it up Hmm
Seren
Heather

Thomas
Louis
Oliver
Connor

CharlieBoo · 08/09/2010 19:23

Chelsea.....oh dear god why would anyone put that on their poor dd!!

wisteria12 · 08/09/2010 18:52

CuppaTeaJanice - James? That is irrational. Though, having said that, I can't abide Jamie.

Here's a weird one; I too dislike Hayden/Jayden/Cayden and their many variants, apart from Hayden spelt Haydn. I have no idea why, I detest all the others, but for some reason removing a vowel makes all the difference.

Oh, and I see my least favourite and possibly most unattractive girl's name ever (second to Imogen) has finally put in an appearance. Paige. Paige. Who came up with that? Paige boys; yes, fine, appropriate at weddings, Paige girls; no, no absolutely not, appropriate being shredded into a bin and burnt. What makes it worse is the chavtastic twang it's pronounced with around here. Paaaaaaiiijjj. PAAAAAIIIIIJJJJ.

P.S - Sorry if you are in possession of a Paige.

laughalot · 08/09/2010 18:40

poo to you lauren haters Grinthat is my lovely dd name. I am very suprised my ds name hasnt been mentioned yet as there is usually some debate about it .... aidan.

I dont really have any names that I dislike however i kid you not there is a baby whos mum comes to school and his name is smirnoff why would you ?

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 08/09/2010 18:26

Have just read back over this thread properly and found on it almost every middle name DH vetoed for DD... he will be smug!

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 08/09/2010 18:24

Also, anything appended with May/Mae/Mei or Lee/Leigh - as in, Amber-Mae or Gracie-Lee. It's irrational because suffixes of Lou, Jo and Ann/Anne don't bother me... Katie-Lou, Casie-Jo and Carrie-Ann seem OK (well, if you like that sort of thing)

Wanderingsheep · 08/09/2010 18:21

My name has appeared a few times. I don't think that it's particularly nice either but as for my DD's beautiful name...well some of you clearly have no taste! Wink

For some reason Poppy annoys me for a child and especially for an adult! So twee.

Wanderingsheep · 08/09/2010 18:15

AnnieBeansMum, I love the name Anya! My DD has a little friend called Anya and she's the nicest little girl!

Doozie · 08/09/2010 18:15

Ha ha, my name is on here a lot! Probably as it is now stupidly popular. It wasn't at all when I was growing up.

I have a huge list of names I irrationally dislike...

Grace
Abigail
Abby
Nancy
Esme
Mavis
Chloe
Poppy
Ellie
Vicki
Amy
Sue
Dawn
Jodie
Karen
Tanya
Zoe
Deborah
Ruby
Evie
Megan
Hannah
Paige
Madison

Sebastian
Eric
Derek
Owen
Ian
Alfie
Archie
Atticus

And lots of names I have a rational dislike of too, but I'll stop now.

TheBolter · 08/09/2010 18:12

Loads. But especially:

Joshua (lovely before ubiquity ruined it)

AnnieBeansMum · 08/09/2010 18:10

I should have put a wink or something after my post mathanxiety. No need to apologize. Everyone has different tastes. Grin

mathanxiety · 08/09/2010 18:03

Apologies AnnieBeansMum.

(In my defence, it is an irrational dislike)

duchesse · 08/09/2010 18:00

I HATE YOUR NAMES, FOR NO APPARENT REASON TOO. BECAUSE I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY ARE.
Angry

(this is duchesse's daughter, my name is here several times)

duchesse · 08/09/2010 17:53

Ella
Hannah
Poppy
Alfie
Abby

AnnieBeansMum · 08/09/2010 17:49

Sad at mathanxiety. My dd is Anya (Annie) and I adore the name. Different strokes for different folks I guess....

AnnieBeansMum · 08/09/2010 17:47

Superdragonmama - as an actual Summer, I agree with you entirely!! It is a ridiculous name! Grin

cece · 08/09/2010 17:45

Jessica and Rebecca - can't abide either but they are perfectly fine popular names to most people.

CuppaTeaJanice · 08/09/2010 17:38

Am I the only person here to have an irrational hatred of the name James?

I can just about stomach it for an older man, but child Jameses give me that sinking feeling that you get after Christmas or a great holiday.

It's Catherine Gee's fault - she was presenting an episode of 'Escape to the Country', trying to find a house for a couple with a son called James, and the way she droned on and on about potential bedrooms for this James kid sucked all the positivity out of the name for me.

I know it's irrational and it's a nice name for anyone who doesn't have Ms Gee's drony voice stuck in their head!!

I'm surprised DS's name has only been mentioned once - it regularly gets a slagging on these name threads.

JustDoMyLippyThenWeWillGo · 08/09/2010 17:30

Imogen

Chloe

Don't know why, just do

Rapscallion · 08/09/2010 17:29

Ha ha - what a great thread!

I know what you mean about names. I guess there will always be people which you choose to forget in life whose names will tarnish everyone else with the same name... Like Daniel or Ian (shudder).

Mine are

Thomas
Levi
Bethany
Imogen.

BackOnceAgain · 08/09/2010 17:25

Teehee this is very funny thread. Mine top 3 are

Cayden (overheard an older lady ask a parent where they got this name from, the response, "its from America" WTF!?)

Jayden (I'm guessing this might be from America too though I'm not sure...)

Demi-leigh (half a leigh? Hmm In fact Demi-anything...)
