I'll go first-

Anne/Anna
Nancy

I don't know why I feel such a strong dislike for them! Perfectly nice normal names logically but for me.......no. To say the least.

Apologies to any parents of Annas or Nancys, I know I am the freakish one for feeling this way!

Figured everyone would have at least one name like this?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
YumLemonCheesecake · 09/09/2010 15:13

Natasha, Samantha and Grace

Horton · 09/09/2010 11:51

anything appended with May/Mae/Mei or Lee/Leigh

I met a child called Mai-Lee the other day. Pronounced Miley. Mother appeared otherwise sane (and v nice), oddly.

I don't like Ann(e) at all but quite like Anna, irrationally.

Philip, Benjamin and Timothy just sound wet.

Hate all surnamey names (Bailey, Madison, Courtney etc).

Evie is one I just don't get at all. Eve/Eva are lovely names.

AngryPixie · 09/09/2010 11:18

All Dawn's are horrid Grin

Also Sophie, it sounds like sofa and there are too damn many!!!

As you were

lamplighter · 09/09/2010 10:58

At school we had a Charlotte who had a 'bit of a reputation'.

The boys always said the C was silent. Put me off the name!

yellowflowers · 09/09/2010 10:50

I do not like Felicity.

And have only known horrible Angelas and Charlottes (sorry, I am sure some of you are nice).

lamplighter · 09/09/2010 09:51

LouMacca

Sorry but can't get into the name - my 'friend' Louise shagged my DH (now ex DH) and another Louise tried to shag my BF.

Maybe I should have concentrated on the 'irrational' part.

I shall start again.

Millie - I always think of Millipede.

Megan - just awful

Any name ending in 'een'. Maureen, Eileen, Doreen etc

Any name ending in 'ette'. Annette, Jenette, Antoinette

Marcus - yep, makes me think of snot

Sonia

Morag

Alison

Alfie

Paul

Chris (male or female0

Carol

Dominic

Tony

I have thousands!

LouMacca · 09/09/2010 09:35

lamplighter - you've never met me!

Funnily enough my DH & I got engaged in Kenya and all the lovely people we met there threw us a surprise engagement party. They brought out a cake which said 'Congratulations Steve & Louse!' Grin

Psammead · 09/09/2010 09:32

Andrew for a boy.

Surprised my name isn't mentioned more often. I have had people tell me that they don't like it to my face! It's Victoria. People seem to think it's smug.

DD's name hasn't been mentioned yet! lol.

TheMoonOnAStick · 09/09/2010 09:31

I find the current trend for ironic old man/lady names just awful and contrived.

I notice no-one ever suggests Bernard or Edna though - it seems curiously some old man/lady names are winsome and popular whilst others are not.

lamplighter · 09/09/2010 09:27

Louise - never met a nice one, just remove the i.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 09/09/2010 09:25

Oh yes, and Paul of course. I read some research once that actually proved that Pauls are less attractive.

Elspeth - the way it is pronounced as if it contains no vowels at all "ll-spth", even though it should be quite nice.

Boo or Bo, loathe and detest.

:o at laughalot posting her own son's name on here

Psammead · 09/09/2010 09:20

Jessica and Rebecca

Spannaboo · 09/09/2010 08:04

Have just read on this thread that I'm unimaginative and dull for naming my daughter Eve. Have also noticed all family member names on here too including mine.

Don't really hate any names except - Marnie! Actually quite a nice name but was the evil little cow who made my life hell all through junior school.

NadiaWadia · 09/09/2010 04:55

Gaynor. Lorraine
Clive. Nigel

delphinedownunder · 09/09/2010 04:35

Euan/ Ewan - snot nosed kid. Don't know why, I have never met an adult or a child Ewan/ Euan.

Benjamin - love Ben but not Benjamin. A bit of a mouthful, perhaps a little Mummy's boyish.

Luca and Mica - a bit pretentious.

Tyler for a girl or boy.

Isabella - again a mouthful and flouncy. Love Isabel and Isobel though. You see, no rhyme or reason!

KatnKankles · 08/09/2010 23:59

My name, my 4 children's names, and my DH's name have been mentioned Shock Wink

I irrationally hate the name Matthew.. very inoffensive but just can't understand why anyone would use it.

Also
Courtney
Ellie
Demi
anything hyphenated.

I used to have an irrational hatred of the name Elizabeth. I absolutely love it now.. it was like an epiphany, I just didn't get why anyone would use it and one day I was looking at names for one of my dds and it clicked! Sadly DH didn't agree and therefore I have a lovely hamster named Elizabeth.

mollymawk · 08/09/2010 23:00

Well, my name has appeared, as has DH's, DS2's and DD's, but DS1 seems to have escaped so far (despite some people posting what are unfairly long lists in my view - I mean, how much irrationality can there be in one head?).

I don't like any girls' name that has an "o" in it.

Boys' names with "o" are okay though.

CakeandRoses · 08/09/2010 22:45

Evie makes me shudder. I have to literally stop myself recoiling at the mention of it. No reason for this at all.

Lots of other names I dislike but all for 'good' reasons.

nannylocal · 08/09/2010 22:43

Guy
Sonny
Craig
Lottie (though I don't mind Charlotte)
Sofia (if pronounced sa-fire)
Cecily
Mandy

I recently met someone whose daughter was called Esmerald Eliza - I thought that was a bit much!

FunnysInTheGarden · 08/09/2010 22:30

Fancy not liking Abigail, tis a lovely name

sparkleshine · 08/09/2010 22:26

Can't believe I've read all 7 pages. Mine and DP names aren't on here but my gorgeous baby boys name is 4 times.
So....

John --- really detest this name. It's like a word picked out coz you have nothing else. So boooring.
Peter
Paul
Anne --- reason as above ( and my mums name)
Joanne --- my ex best friend
Susan
claire/Clare
Enid, edith, ethel, margaret,Mary, martha, mavis --basically any old fashioned name.

Male names that are changed to make into ugly female names such as michael/michelle, phillip/ phillippa, Bernard/bernadette, Paul/Pauline, Edward/ edwina etc. Ewwwww

But I do like both Daniel and Danielle.

LiquoriceLila · 08/09/2010 21:33

William George and Matthew, Bethany, Elizabeth, Grace and Hannah. No idea why, all perfectly normal names I just really dislike them.

knobbingnowt · 08/09/2010 21:20

Tracey.

I hate it. Bleugh.

KittyBigglesworth · 08/09/2010 21:18

Cassandra and Persephone - ponce names and not so irrational as they have unforutnate meanings too.

Becky99 · 08/09/2010 21:06

Heard a woman call out to son yesterday "Athios!"
What the f***!
