Velveteen - cool, cruel or just mental

A friend of a friend is slightly obsessed with the name Velveteen for a girl.

I can't figure out what I think about it - on one hand the name Velvet does seem kinda boho and pretty but on the other it's reminisant of a stripper. Grin

Whats your opinion on it?

Damn, I see the Transvision Vamp stuff has already been done...

Ineedsomesleep · 10/09/2010 14:51

We've got a distant relation called Denim. Perhaps they could use that for a middle name Grin

Velvetina might be okay...? Gives kiddy the option of a normal Tina, but if she grows into a hippy or and artist I guess she'd love the name Velvet.

swanandduck · 07/09/2010 13:37

That is an absolutely ridiculous name.

zozzle · 06/09/2010 22:59

Cruel - a cheap substitute for velvet.

maktaitai · 06/09/2010 22:58

I always thought Rayon was nice for a girl.

Velours? (french for velvet)

Dralonne?

ReshapeWhileDamp · 06/09/2010 22:55

I prefer Uncut Moquette for a girl. Grin

I knew a Velvet once but she was posh enough to carry it off.

LOL at Velveeta, it's the cheese flavoured dairy by-product that never dies.

spamm · 04/09/2010 15:37

Sounds like a cheap suit. Is that the tone they are trying to strike? Grin

Cortina · 04/09/2010 15:31

Know a 'Velvet' and that's about as far as I'd go...

Velvet is seen as very cool and her parents are seen as being a bit 'alternative' by her friends.

wildmutt · 04/09/2010 13:27

Cruel, Mental and v uncool

lamplighter · 04/09/2010 09:47

I know a little girl called Scarlett Velvet

sedgiebaby · 04/09/2010 09:34

Lol, my mum suggested Velvet to us. The thing with my last name (quite a frilly french one) it would just sound like a showgirl/drag queen/worse.

One of my 'tests' when considering a name is how would I feel introducing myself at a business meeting with that name? It helps bring me back to real life!

ValiumSingleton · 04/09/2010 07:53

AWful. Sounds like a name for you know what.

Even Velvet is bad, but there is a writer whose daughter is called Velvet I think. Suzy Godson. what was she thinking?! I think the toilet paper came out afterwards.

Tortington · 04/09/2010 01:50

velvet is a euphamism for the inside of yer fanny

velvet glove

velvet...whatever the lezzer bbc programme was called

come the fuck on

and then ther is the band velveteen reveolver

get a top hat and frizzy hair and call the kid slash ffs

musicmadness · 04/09/2010 01:46

No No No. Velvet is slightly better but it reminds me of one of the wrestlers in TNA. She straddles the rope and wiggles her bum as she gets in the ring Hmm

CurlyhairedAssassin · 03/09/2010 23:43

splutter at Vulva.

The Velveteen Rabbit, that's all I can think of....

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 03/09/2010 23:41

Vulva. Has no-one mentioned vulva yet?
