Opinions on my top choice boys name please...

We think we have decided on our son's name but I'd like your opinions...I just don't know if I'm brave enough to go with it even though I love it! I'm worrying that (although I've liked it for years) I might go off it in a few years and it might sound dated as I think it is becoming fashionable again...

ok, so my first choice name is Milo. Middle name would be Patrick after my Dad and our surname is one syllable.

I am worrying about what others will think of it...so waiting until he arrives to stop relatives putting me off the name with comments such as 'Milo? Where did you get that from?' Or 'Isn't that one of the characters of that kids show...?'

Possible stand-by names are Leo or Max, though i think Max would be too short and I don't absolutely love it, just quite like it.

Opinions Please!

Love it, go for it.

And don't tell anyone until he arrives!

seeker · 31/08/2010 19:35

chainedtothedesk - I sort of see your point about Patrick, but 6my^ Patrick absoulutely loves that there are other Patricks in the family, it's his dad's second name, it was his granddad's anme, and he can go through old photographslooking for other Patricks. He certainly doesn't seem to feel any less unique for having a family name. So don't completely dismiss the idea. Just think of Patch as a nickname for a baby! Mine was patch until he was about 5 - it was compeltely adorable!

lifeas3plus1 · 31/08/2010 14:55

I used to love Milo as a kid then I got older and learned all about the nestle thing so don't have it in the house anymore.

Not so keen on the name. I liked the other poster's suggestion of felix!

Patrick is lovely.

Doobydoo · 31/08/2010 14:42

There is a Professor in something called Milo[I forget what]

chainedtothedesk · 31/08/2010 14:26

We actually came across Milo when watching first series of 24 - used on an adult! (there was also an actor in Heroes called Milo - this now sounds like we watch too much TV!)

Milo on an adult didn't seem wierd at all to us but I suppose I can see how others might think it was bit more childish compared to Miles. I do like Miles but I think one syllable may sound too short with a one syllable surname. Wouldn't it?

He could always refer to himself as Miles if he decided to? Or would you do it the other way round, call him Miles officially (on birth cert etc.) but always use Milo? Decisions...decisions!!

I originally suggested Milo, and now DH loves it so much he's not really considering the alternatives...So the decision may already be made!Smile

I don't mind Milo but being Australian, I couldn't name my child it because of the drink. I also think it's not great for an adult. As someone noted above - can you imagine a high court judge being called Milo?

Love Max and Leo. Love, love, love. In fact Max is our current top choice for our baby due in November.

My other favourite is Felix.

LifeOfKate · 31/08/2010 13:39

I like it :)

Agree that whilst it does remind me a bit of the tweenies, I don't think they'll be around forever and it's not a bad association anyway. And I've never heard of the drink, am I missing something?! Confused

careylouwho · 31/08/2010 13:39

I really like Milo and got quite "stuck" on it as THE name if we have a boy but now not as sure (DH HATES it!) Think I'd go for Miles though and use Milo as nickname so as to give DS option of a more grown-up option.

EvianBaby · 31/08/2010 13:28

I love it. I am pregnant with DC2 and it's on my list if this one's a boy! Be brave!

laurely · 31/08/2010 13:25

I can see Milo on a child but not really on a man iyswim?

Max is timeless and will grow with him to.

meadowlarks · 31/08/2010 13:21

I prefer Leo or Miles, they're much more sophisticated. Even Ivo, Rollo, Hugo or Jago are similar but a lot better. I mean, can you imagine someone called Milo being a high court judge or an MP? No offence to anyone who has a Milo, it's just not to my taste.

Slightly unrelated I know, but I have a friend called Malo; St Malo was a Welsh saint who did something important in Brittany.

skidoodly · 31/08/2010 13:20

I like Milo, a friend's baby DS is called this.

It is quite trendy though, as are most names ending in o.

jellybeans · 31/08/2010 13:17

Not keen on Milo, it's just abit too 'out there' for me. I love Leo or Max though.

clarabellarocks · 31/08/2010 13:16

I think Milo is gorgeous. And unusual. Don't really watch Tweenies and people called Florence from our generation presumable don't get labelled with Florence from the Magic roundabout or Rosie's from The Flumps. Don't get that whole thing.

skyeplusbump · 31/08/2010 12:33

i like milo...
the drink is more popular in australia,
and the tweenies, really hasnt stopped anyone naming babys bella or jake has it?!

go with the name you love!Grin

horatia · 31/08/2010 12:20

I like Milo best from your choices. Also like Miles.

Doobydoo · 31/08/2010 10:32

So far he likes it! He is 3 and ahalf.I suppose you could call him Jack[but what about the beanstalk] or Henry [but what about Horrid HenryWinkI think you get my pointGrin

GooseyLoosey · 31/08/2010 10:21

I like Milo. I considered it as it is a family name and hugely pre-dates the tweenies!

There is a boy in dd's class called Milo and as far as I know, the tweenies thing is not much of an issue. In 5 years time when your child gets to school, the tweenies may be a (hopefully) distant memory in any event.

I love Patrick.

Not keen on Milo, I'm afraid. it's too cutesy for my tastes.

Leo is great.

chainedtothedesk · 31/08/2010 10:18

sophiesmummie - Mylo.

I'm not really bothered about the drink - its not like I'm calling him 'Smirnoff' or 'Nescafe' is it? How many people actually buy that drink anyway? Its not the first thing that springs to my mind at all, but do appreciate your thoughts.

Personally I'm not keen on Milo. And I don't think your ds will thank you for being named after a chocolate drink.

sophiesmummie · 31/08/2010 10:12

Do you pronounce it Meelo or Mylo?

clpsmum · 31/08/2010 10:11

Milo is brilliant, million times better than Max or Leo, be brave your son will thank you for it in the future

mopsyflopsy · 31/08/2010 10:08

This is Milo: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milo_(drink)
