Hi all

Pregnancy hormones may be driving my peculiar name considerations for boys, so feedback is welcome!
If you don't like any of them... would it be possible to say why?

Beaumont
Phoenix
Denver
Corbin
Stirling

I like names with a bit of a 'nature' theme.

Are they just too poncetastic? I happen to love them (Corbin is DH's choice however) but I am aware that my hormones may have removed me from the reality of yelling it out in the supermarket/park!

Me too, and I also like Emmett.

SirBoobAlot · 27/08/2010 18:00

I actually like Everett quite a lot - go for that one!

notthe3monkeys · 27/08/2010 15:55

Ok so I am not disappointed with the reactions so far! Some of it was kind of what I expected, I am vaguely aware that what seems great now is toe-curling when you're not pregnant.

DH will be pleased with the initial responses to Corbin too.

I think Phoenix is OUT.
Denver I was never that mad about anyway
Beaumont - I just kind of loved it but feared that the poor little mite might get a walloping

Corbin and Stirling are still in the running.

Actually I really like Everett but DH vetoed it the bugger.

Beaumont -- the Beaumont Society would be off-putting from the pov of names www.beaumontsociety.org.uk/
Phoenix -- nice, but maybe a bit Hollywood
Denver -- John Denver
Corbin -- LOVELY, old English (or possibly Anglo Norman) name for a crow, and has a lovely sound imo.
Stirling -- a bit like 'Lance'; overdoing the manliness

I love Corbin. (I think the word/name crops up in a Maddy Pryor song about a dead knight having his bones picked by crows in a field, but don't let that put you off Smile)

I'm not keen on place names or surnames as first names. However from your list I like Denver best.

DastardlyandSmugly · 27/08/2010 12:17

Stirling is my fave too although my uncle had this as a middle name (grandad loved Stirling Moss) and he had it omitted from his wedding ceremony as he hated it so much.

Beaumont - it reminds me of a cinema or something
Phoenix - prefer it for a girl
Denver - agree Colorado
Corbin - I know one of the LA LAW lawyers was called Corbin in real life but it's just too preppy American for me
Stirling - is town that always rains when I drive through it

topsi · 27/08/2010 12:12

Beaumont is a wood timber merchant down our way

morganlebuffay · 27/08/2010 12:04

If I had to pick one, it would be Denver. It seems like the most name-like and 'Den' is quite cool for a nickname. I have met a Denver and didn't think his name was weird or anything. Don't like any of the others, sorry.

any more for any more?

I only like Stirling.
Corbin is the name of a friends band when we were at college,
Denver - cannot see this as a name for a person at all.
Phoenix - ok, but I couldn't use it, and I am not sure I would want it as my name
Beaumont - just no!

SirBoobAlot · 27/08/2010 10:47

Beaumont - Sounds very poncy. Also its a betting method and that would put me off...
Phoenix - is silly, to be blunt.
Denver - Colerado
Corbin - sounds like cabin.
Stirling - is town that always rains when I drive through it.

minipie · 27/08/2010 10:15

Corbin I really like. (Like Corin too)

Stirling is ok, but doesn't really suit a small child IMO and no obvious nn.

The others I wouldn't go for - they are too obviously place names.

jennyee · 27/08/2010 10:12

I kind of like Stirling too but I'd always think of the town.
Same with Denver and Phoenix. And for some reason I just don't like Beaumont, Corbin is fab though!

notthe3monkeys · 27/08/2010 10:08

Stirling my fav too, but it annoys me that it doesn't have an 'obvious' nickname. Not that that is a dealbreaker, however, I love the name and it sounds great with our surname.

Beaumont is poncetastic.

Phoenix is nice.

Denver - OK, but I feel the need to say Colerardo after it.

Corbin, Hmm...not keen, don't know why.

Stirling is cool, like Stirling Moss.
