Would you say 'Eve-lin' or 'Ev-lin'?

Thanks!

I knew a married couple called .......... Evelyn and Evelyn :o

The lady was Evva-lin(Evvy) and the man was Eve-lin. Also an Aunty Evvy in my family (Ev-lin)

Having said that, I think the vas majority of people would say it Eve-lyn

Eve lin

its my dds middle name after my grandmother an her mother who both pronounced it so.
Can't be an age thing then

thelastnoonoo · 24/08/2010 23:03

Ev - lyn

horatia · 24/08/2010 23:00

Ev-lin, although I think Eev-lin sounds nicer.

vaunieathome · 24/08/2010 13:52

Evelyn Waugh was, I believe, married to a woman also called Evelyn. Their friends called them Hevelyn and Shevelyn to differentiate them!! I think you can pronounce it either way if you are a girl with the Eve-lin way being more popular for males.

FluffyCut · 24/08/2010 13:48

My dds name and it is ever-lyn, drives me mad when people say eve-lyn, that's the male version.

CheckingCheques · 24/08/2010 13:45

BibiThree · 24/08/2010 13:43

jellybeans · 24/08/2010 13:40

I have 2 relatives named it, both are Eve lyn. One hates it as she feels it is too close to Evil.

SecretSquirrel193 · 24/08/2010 13:28

Ev-lin

sweatyballsmakemesneeze · 24/08/2010 13:28

My dd's middle name is Evelyn. I wanted it for her first name but was worried about everyone saying it wrong especially as we live in France. As a first name I would have said Everlin but as a middle name it flows better being Eevlin.

morganlebuffay · 24/08/2010 13:25

Ever-lyn

glittershoes · 24/08/2010 13:23

I would automatically say ever-lyn and I think that sounds lovely!

gorionine · 24/08/2010 13:05

Ev-lin

did not know this name hasd a masculine version, I cannot imagine a man called Evelyn for some reason.

Nospringflower · 24/08/2010 13:03

Ev-lin

Sallypuss · 24/08/2010 12:56

You can pronounce either way. DD is eve-lin but gets both. Ignore the Evelyn Waugh thing about this being the masculine pronunciation.

Hulababy · 24/08/2010 12:52

Eve-lin

LostArt · 24/08/2010 12:48

Ev-lin or Ever-lin

imahappycamper · 24/08/2010 12:48

I know a Scottish Evelyn pronounced Everlin, but English ones seem to be Eve lin
