The benefit of Ruben is that it works in all languages and is easily pronouncable to everyone.

In German, for example, Reuben would be pronounced Roy-ben.

Lovechoc, according to the official 2008 stats there were 767 Reubens born and only 260 Rubens (not to mention the 3 Rhubens, 4 Reubans and 4 Rubans - now they definitely can't spell!) that was the main reason I decided Reuben was the usual spelling.

Another thing you may get is 'oh - as in Reubens, the formula 1 racing car driver?' I had this last week when out at a restaurant.

(I have a Mabel and some people spell in Mable...so spell it right as people will get it wrong if there's any room for error anyway!)

have only read page 1, but I know 2 people called Ruben - both spelled without the E.

When I was doing research into this I found that Ruben was the most common way of spelling it in recent years, and that Reuben is hardly used at all. I also looked at the amount of Reubens born last year - there were not that many. But I can see there being a bit of a revival!

Tuschinski people will get used to the name eventually. DS2 is now nearly 10 weeks old and to begin with when the birth was announced, DH had said verbally Reuben but many relatives used 'Ruben' when writing out congrats via text or FB replies. However it seems to have sorted itself out now...until he starts school! lol Then we'll have to go through it all over againGrin

My DS was born 4 weeks ago. I did a bit of research to see which was the way most people would spell it (this thread included!) and decided on Reuben. However I think we only got one card with it spelt correctly, even my sister got it wrong! Most people have been writing Rueben. We haven't actually officially registered his name yet but I think we'll stick with Reuben.

Is it just me, or is the effect of 55 posts saying 'Reuben' to make the word Reuben look really odd? Like when you say a word over and over and over.

ah, my parents used to have a gardener called Reuben. He had a pet pig.
