Hi,

Maybe you can help us?

So far the girls names we like are -

Maisie
Jessica
Madeleine
Eadie
Sophie
Phoebe
Freya

Any names in there you automatically hate? - if so why?

Any names you can throw in the mix?

Thanks

Madaleine is nice,
it has a poetic and melodic quality to its sound. Its a name not used enough.
and sophia rather than sophie?

frankenfanny · 18/08/2010 00:40

I don't hate any of them, they are all pretty but I prefer Jessica, Madeleine and Phoebe for various reasons. Jess, Maddy and Feebs is what they would likely be called in later life, if that bothers you. With a short list like that, you can see what goes best with baby herself (and her surname).

My "test" is imagining the name being read out on Cbeebies or being shouted out in the street.

Atlasive · 18/08/2010 00:40

I like Maisie, Jessica and Sophie from your list. Also like Edie if short for Edith.

Other ideas....

Louisa
Harriet
Coralie
Anna
Elodie
Rebecca
Lydia
Natalie
Abigail
Sarah
Ivy
Philippa/Pippa
Ruby
Jennifer
Felicity
Juliet
Miriam
Talia
Elsie
Victoria
Lucy
Susan
Marianne
Jasmine

Have you tried the top 100? You seem to like popular names. No bad thing by the way, they're popular for a reason.

Edie short for Edith is nice. And not popular. Grin Esther is nice.

I love the name Madeleine - really beautiful.

jabberwocky · 18/08/2010 02:50

Hi,

Thanks so far for all your help!

Maisie is my husbands favourite by far and I love it too but am wondering if it is enough of a 'proper' name. ie when she's a grown up will it still be as nice and sound formal enough if she is a professional?

Jessica is a new addition to the list so we're finding it hard to imagine it as we've had weeks practising (!!) with the other names!

It's so hard picking a name it's such a big important decision!! Aaah!

Maisie can be short for Margaret or Marjorie.

Have you thought of a middle name? Do all your choices flow equally well with your surname?

NoTeaForMe · 18/08/2010 13:16

Yep we've picked middle name, it's after my grandma so it's an old classic name and all the names go equally well with that and our surname. Actually Phoebe did get crossed off as our surname starts with Bee so was a but much!

Thanks for help but I don't like marjorie and margaret was my other grandmas name and wouldn't want to use it, too much with middle name chosen and niece has it as a middle name.
