Oh dear, a baby girl had been registered as a boy due to an unusual name. I do think it sounds masculine.

Any name ending in den or don needs serious thought, they are the Sharon and Traceys of the future

emptyshell · 19/08/2010 16:44

I can't help but think of Mortal Kombat when I hear this story either.

Wish people would quit naming kids the first mashed up train wreck name that comes into their head. Poor registrars must struggle to keep a straight face sometimes. I know I see some names arriving in school and I cringe inwardly on behalf of the lovely child labelled as such for life.

Biscuitbreaker · 19/08/2010 15:48

Mortal Kombat.

mathanxiety · 18/08/2010 17:59

Is Raydon a name from some game? I'm thinking Mortal Kombat or some such yuckiness.

There's a Target ad on US tv these days where the camera pans over a series of cubbies in a school, each one of which has a brown paper lunchbag in it, and on each bag is a variant of the name Braydon, Braiden, Braydin, Braydon F., Braydon T., etc; next shot shows a nice Target lunchbox without any Braydon reference. Very funny.

chaya5738 · 18/08/2010 13:23

I didn't think there were any "aydon" names left but clearly I was wrong. Looking forward to Laydon making an appearance

Psammead · 18/08/2010 12:04

Why do they have to write 'jabs'? Why not use the proper word? Talk about dumbing down.

Raydon is pretty bad.

clam · 18/08/2010 10:50

Well, she said she "just sort of made the name up."

Well, there you go. Don't do that next time, love.

PosieParker · 18/08/2010 10:35

I loathe the name Ray/Raymond but Raydon really takes the biscuit.

FranSanDisco · 18/08/2010 10:34

Are the parents Raymond and Donna and they thought a combination of the two would be classy? I know a Mikenda - dad is Michael (Mick)and mum is Brenda - get it? Grin

TheFallenMadonna · 18/08/2010 10:30

Ah. I'd have been the same as you then. And DH would have laughed at me Grin

ShadeofViolet · 18/08/2010 10:27

Our Registry Office is a sattalite office - they take the details and it gets sent off to the main office who send you out the certificate. They made the mistake in my case and it could be the same here.

usualsuspect · 18/08/2010 10:27

Its no worse than some of the awful old mens names bandied about on here

TheFallenMadonna · 18/08/2010 10:23

You check it though, don't you? Before you get the certificate.

ShadeofViolet · 18/08/2010 10:17

Actually the registrar made a mistake and wrore DD's middle name as Grave rather than Grace. I was very hormonal and sobbed as I thought it couldnt be changed, but I didnt think 'must ring the DM for 5 minutes of fame over a mistake'

ShadeofViolet · 18/08/2010 10:15

I saw this and the name sounds more like a boys name imo.

Its a bit of a shit name though!

SixtyFootDoll · 18/08/2010 10:14

As I said above they are idiots.

scottishmummy · 18/08/2010 10:12

no one compelled them.more like 5seconds of fame seekers.its in the paper innit.wondering if they can get any compensation perhaps

MmeLindt · 18/08/2010 10:10

Raydon is a horrible name. Boy or girl.

The registrar made a mistake. Is it really worth going to the papers with the story?

If they get ridiculed inthe DM then it is their own fault for looking for the publicity.

SixtyFootDoll · 18/08/2010 10:09

I can just see the DM, oh yes we'll print your story about this terrible mistake....whilst laughing up their sleeves knowing we would all be taking the piss out of stupid name choice.

scottishmummy · 18/08/2010 10:05

how are they lambs to slaughter?more like the liked they attention.no one compelled them

SixtyFootDoll · 18/08/2010 10:03

If you scroll down through the comments on the article, poor Mum of Raydon is defending her name choice.
Raydon is their derivative of Raymond, babys grandfather.

Feel a bit sorry for them they have had a right flaming, like lambs to the slaughter for the DM

scottishmummy · 18/08/2010 09:58

in scotland registrar can refuse daft names.maybe weee raydon could have been saved

SixtyFootDoll · 18/08/2010 09:39

Raydon is a poisonous gas.
Idiots.

BikeRunSki · 18/08/2010 09:38

I was thinking washing powder too!

When we went to register DS, the info the registrar had from the hospital had him down as a girl. He has three VERY unmistakably male names. I think that was more down to stressed, overworked midwife, dealing with the mid-September rush!

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 18/08/2010 09:34

I also thought washing powder. And I now have the jingle from the Calgon ad running through my head.
