We have Gilbert on our lists too and now my husband has come up with this. It is a family name too he says. I told him I'd think about it for a middle name if we didn't use Gilbert.

Am I right that this is too unusual for a first name? How would you pronounce it too?

Adam Gilchrist is a cricketer. Pronounced Gill - Krissed.

I've never heard of it as a first name though.

Prefer it to Gilbert (Rugby equipment manufacturer)(or Grape).

How about Christy? Nice Irish name.

TrillianAstra · 17/08/2010 13:09

Never heard of it - sounds like a made-up name trying to be old-fashioned-sounding.

But weirdy family names that no-one has heard of of can pronounce is what middle names are for. Grin

definitely a surname.

I have a relly called Gillchrist. We don't talk about him though. He's no better than he ought to be iykwim
