Hello, we love the name Jasper but really don't have a clue on how the name is perceived - we just know that we like it!

Sooo, we need to get some outside opinions and perspective on how it sounds etc. Do you like it? Is it too unusual? Is it a name that could cause teasing?

Thanks so much!

We have one and he is a Jas, Jaspy. I wasn't so sure at first, I admit, but it really suits him. This of course was pre vampires. Smile

Norsedriver · 17/08/2010 13:04

I love it. Would have been on our list but my SIL has just named her baby Jasper.

B52s · 17/08/2010 12:59

My DS2 was so nearly a Jasper, liked Jazz for short, but tis just a teensy bit poncy IMVHO. Couldn't imagine shouting it in our local Sainsbugs. Still like it though. Called DS2 Sam in the end which is definately a dogs name.

Clary · 17/08/2010 12:55

I think it is quite posh, agree with others, along the lines of Sebastian, Felix, etc.

I know only one, he is about 6yo. His brothers have more popular names FWIW. I like it actually tho DH not keen.

Atlasive · 17/08/2010 12:04

I like it.

BaronessBomburst · 17/08/2010 09:51

I like it, but then again I live in Holland and it's a much more 'mainstream' name over here - along with Casper. To be brutally honest, I think in the UK it's a bit noncey, or best used for pets. Maybe as a middle name instead?

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 17/08/2010 09:41

I think it's a silly name

emmyloo2 · 17/08/2010 09:38

I really like it and we briefly considered putting it on our shortlist. However, ended up not including it because I was concerned it might be a bit OTT. However, I do love it. I also love other similar names like Felix.

Rockbird · 17/08/2010 00:02

Problem with threads like this is that people invariably come on and say their dc has the name, which makes it very unpleasant to have to say that I detest the name. Sorry.

Lancelottie · 16/08/2010 23:19

It's ruined for me by the girl guide song about Oooh Sir Jasper... but maybe you went to a politer kind of campfire?

LetThereBeRock · 16/08/2010 23:14

I love it.

dustycups · 16/08/2010 22:58

i have a jasper, and it really suits him and people always tell me what a lovely name it is
he gets call jazz and jazzy and jaspy!!

have met 1 other jasper in our area!

PollyTechnique · 16/08/2010 22:52

Like it. I think of Jasper Conran - fashion designer - arty, sophisticated...and quite posh.

GuntherMcKilocodie · 16/08/2010 22:47

I really like it, but I like posh names for little boys (Sebastien, Felix etc)

Jojay · 16/08/2010 22:30

Great name - we called DS1 Jasper.

Everyone goes on about it becoming super popular since Twilight, but I'm yet to meet another one, though it could just be a metter of time.

It was described to me as 'Classic Eccentric' once, which I thought summed it up pretty well.

We call DS1 all manner of silly nicknames - Jasbo, Jaspy, Jazzy Jasper etc etc, but I still love it, nad it suits him so well.

Go for it! I don't mind sharing it, honest Grin

Littlefish · 16/08/2010 21:21

Lovely name. I have a close family member called it. It is, however, the name for wasps around these parts.

SaorAlba · 16/08/2010 21:17

I've always loved the name, but unfortunately.van never use it for a dc as I know a pig called Jasper.

(A real pig that goes oink, not a nasty human.)

Fab name.

moonminmama · 16/08/2010 21:05

my bf called her ds Jasper. Have to admit at first i thought wtf?? it took some getting used to but now i could never imagine him as anything else. He is a gorgeous little boy and really suits his name. she said that she liked it because if he didnt like it when he was older he could shorten it to Jay or JazzHmm

NormanNorris · 16/08/2010 21:00

Very popular since Twilight.

stinkypants · 16/08/2010 20:54

i'm not massively keen - associate with wasps and jasper carrott - but it's one of those that is better once you get used to it!

Nyx · 16/08/2010 19:40

Yes, Jasper is a good name (imo) - go for it!

youremindmeofthebabe · 16/08/2010 19:39

I love it too. It does now evoke sexy vampires for me too!

Smilehighclub · 16/08/2010 19:38

love it. if I had a ds tomorrow I'd call him jasper (or maybe Casper).
