Emma?

I think it's a really pretty name, but is it very popular at the moment and do you think it's boring?

Do you prefer Emma Carys or Carys Emma?
Emma Harriet?

Any other suggestions to go with Emma? I like fairly classic/traditional names... a bit unusual is fine but don't like anything really "out there".

Thanks!

I really do like Emma Coraline because it is not unpronounceable but it is a bit different.

Atlasive · 17/08/2010 11:58

Emma Harriet is lovely, as is Emma Coraline. Not particularly keen on Carys.

zenoushka · 17/08/2010 00:46

I love Emma Carys - really pretty. plus it's a really classic name but not overly popular these days. I've come across so many Islas, Avas, Rubys, Lilys etc... recently, but no Emma!

proudfoot · 17/08/2010 00:05

Thanks for the feedback. Nice to see mostly positive comments, and some good ones about Helen - that's my name! Grin

Didn't think about Jane Austen with Emma Harriet - surprised so many people picked up on it but I don't think it's a negative association and wouldn't necessarily put me off.

Lulabella I like a lot of those ideas especially Emma Coraline - just gorgeous!

Cortina, completely agree re Helen... lovely name

loveulotslikejellytots · 16/08/2010 11:02

I'm an Emma Louise and I quite like it! Grin I also went to school with an Emma Rose which was quite a sweet name. Apart from that one girl I went to school with, I dont know any other Emma's so I guess it's not as popular now.

I love Emma Carys though Smile

AT1137 · 16/08/2010 10:51

I think it's a bit boring (sorry).

Bacofoil · 16/08/2010 10:39

Lovely name.

Cortina · 16/08/2010 10:36

That should read 'equally as nice' sorry, pregnancy brain in force today.

Cortina · 16/08/2010 10:35

I think you'll find as the years roll by it will exude even more class and grace than it does already. There will be barely any of them, ditto Sarah and Helen which are equally was nice and in the same vein to my mind.

its around 20 in the popularity stakes.

my DD is an Emma and i chose it because its a pretty, classic name and not too ubiquitous (like lily, amelia, martha etc). The only other Emma i know is DH's cousin.

i agree that Emma Harriet is a bit Jane Austen and at the moment i am trying to choose a name for DC2 that won't sound too Jane Austen when put next to Emma!

LadyMetroland · 16/08/2010 10:03

Love love love Emma. It is timeless and elegant and would be my number one choice if DH would let me have it!

There are quite a few grown-up Emmas which I think puts some people off as they see it as a common name, but there aren't many little Emmas around

Haliborange · 16/08/2010 10:00

I know a (fairly) nasty Emma, but still think it is a lovely name. I can see why some might think it boring (lots of them about in the 70s), but it is very pretty and these days quite underused.

ShadeofViolet · 16/08/2010 10:00

Perfect. DS has an Emma at preschool and she is a lovely, pretty girl with ringlet hair.

It was my first choice for DD but DH said too boring :(

MrsJohnDeere · 16/08/2010 09:56

Perfect and not boring. And all Emmas are lovely.

amidaiwish · 16/08/2010 09:55

i like Emma
there is just one child Emma i know, and she is Ema (Argentinian).

bigstripeytiger · 16/08/2010 09:49

I think that Emma is better as a middle name than a first name, what about Harriet Emma?

NiceCuppaT · 16/08/2010 09:43

Emma is boring!
I always think names who you know lots of as adults are boring!
Everyone went to school with an emma, everyone has worked with an emma etc...

tummytickler · 16/08/2010 08:49

Emma is the height of boring blandness for me, sorry. I have never liked it, even when i was a child.
However, I like Carys less. SO i would go for Emma Harriet, Harriet is lovely.

atmywitssend · 16/08/2010 08:37

I love Emma, it was our favourite girl name. Not Emma Harriet though, too "Jane Austin"'s Emma. Emma Louise?

Tortington · 16/08/2010 08:35

Esme?

i have an emma but call her esme i wish it had been her given name.

I like Emma too - know no nasty ones, and no little ones. Oldest Emma I know is 10.
