I love these names, but does anyone have any opinions on these?

have to admit that I thought old lady when I first heard someone use Mabel on a baby recently, but it's definitely growing on me now. it's very happy sounding. I've heard a couple of littlies called Mabel since so have a feeling it's on the rise.

I also know a gorgeous little girl called Morag.

Possibly 2 of the worst names in existence. I just think of Aunty Mabel from 'Go Outside', for me this is 'old lady chic' gone too far.

I knew a Morag when I was little she was as horrible as her name.

moragbellingham · 17/08/2010 21:08

A friend of mine has always been called Able Mabel Smile

Atlasive · 17/08/2010 12:02

Morag is lovely.

Not keen on Mabel.

twosofar · 16/08/2010 20:42

Love Mabel - is pretty and feminine. Morag sounds like the name of an old battleaxe - Morag old hag
Very ugly and harsh

NormanNorris · 16/08/2010 20:40

I love Morag, but it was my mum's name so I'm biased.

I know of 2 Mabels born this year. Def. on the rise and will date along with Ruby and Evie.

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 16/08/2010 19:41

Posie Parker - your Mabel is gorgeous - I'm now voting Mabel!:)

emptyshell · 16/08/2010 15:54

Lots of schools still do Katie Morag as a topic in the infants - might lead to nameteasing.

Mabel is lovely

Aitch · 14/08/2010 23:47

neither is my favourite name...

muminthemiddle · 14/08/2010 23:45

Morag sounds very old Scottish lady, living in Cbeebies Balamory!
Mabel whilst still an "old lady name" seems a bit more chic.

Ktay · 13/08/2010 19:49

Another vote for Mabel. Since having one of my own (DD is 15mo) I have come across loads more - so you might find it starts losing its old-lady connotations soon.

tummytickler · 13/08/2010 19:47

ooh Clary - what are they - they are my kind of names! (although I adore Hilda also!)

deaddei · 13/08/2010 19:39

Mabel is my MIL's name. I leave it up to you how I feel about it Wink

MummyLovesSadie · 13/08/2010 19:37

Mabel is lovely.

Morag = Moor-hag

Clary · 13/08/2010 18:13

LOL pisces, you'd better not meet my DC then! To a child they are Edwardian parlourmaids (not Hilda tho!) and boys who fought in WW1 Grin

LynetteScavo · 13/08/2010 17:37

Mable

piscesmoon · 13/08/2010 17:32

I'm afraid that my pet hate is names at the turn of the century, Hilda, Elsie etc, so you must be muddling me! Mabel is one of the better ones. I like the classic-Sarah, Elizabeth etc Clary (sorry)

onestepforward · 13/08/2010 14:03

Love Mabel!

yama · 13/08/2010 14:02

Another Scottish person who thinks Morag is an awful ugly name. I had a friend at school called Morag and I felt sorry for her.

Mabel is growing on me. I can see its cuteness but it does have old lady connotations (for me).

Clary · 13/08/2010 13:58

Ahh pisces methought you (like me!) were a fan of the old-lady-name phenomenon? Am I confusing you with seeker then? Grin

Clary · 13/08/2010 13:57

I love Mabel soo much. DH said no.

I think Morag may be a bit out there is you are not a) Scottish or b) in Scotland!
