Seraphina / Theadora - what do you think?

Help! We like both Seraphina (shortened to Sef or Phina) and Theadora (shortened to Thea or Dora) but I am not sure if they sound a bit 'posh'??

What do you think?

Theodora but spelt like this, Theadora looks wrong.

Samgoosejones · 27/04/2011 13:18

I really like Theadora and to shorten it to teddy while she is little. The other half loves the nickname but hates the long version. He thinks its a bit pretentious, I find it so beautiful though. And as for the 'naughty' namesake, she was also a really successful co-leader of an empire, so very strong-willed. But now you have mentioned Seraphina, thats beautiful too. I bet he wont go for it though

purlcity / Charlie - what a coincidence! Nice to have spellings that fit with your OH's roots.

Both lovely names :)

Hi there,

I couldn't believe the title of your post....we had our second daughter in Feb this year and we have called her Teodora, the only other name we had in mind for her was Serafina!

Slightly different to what you are thinking of calling your little one but my OH is Italian and we wanted Italian names/spellings.

I still love Serafina and if we had a third girl that's what we would go for.

Don't think they are too 'posh' at all!

Oh and by the way, I'm called Charlie too!

Bombus · 14/08/2010 18:07

We've got a Theodora, shortened to Thea :)

zenoushka · 14/08/2010 17:04

Seraphina is really pretty.

Loujalou · 14/08/2010 15:49

My grandma was a Theodora married to a Theodore. Everyone called her Lola though

LadyMetroland · 14/08/2010 15:04

The correct spelling is Theodora. With an 'o'.

Both lovely names, but if it was up to me I'd go for Thea. Seraphina has a slight hint of pretentiousness imo

DastardlyandSmugly · 14/08/2010 14:12

I actually like them both pretty equally. Prefer Dora as a nickname for Theodora.

LibertyGibbet · 14/08/2010 14:08

I prefer Dorothea to Theadora and it has the same nn potential.

Seraphina is beautiful. Smile

brazenhussy · 14/08/2010 14:02

OMG Rafi, exactly the same here, mine is 9 too and has requested we call her Fi!

I'm a bit gutted really as A. I love the name Fifi and B. my ex MIL hates it so I want to keep using it as long as poss Grin

Rafi · 13/08/2010 23:56

Ours used to be Fifi to family, brazenhussy, but it's apparently now beneath her 9-year-old dignity & we're no longer permitted to use it Grin

skyeplusbump · 13/08/2010 19:54

my thoughts exactly.Wink

brazenhussy · 13/08/2010 19:48

skyeplusbump - how inconsiderate of him!

Rafi - My Seraphina is Fifi to family (except my MIL who says it makes her sound like a poodle) and Fi to her friends.

Rafi · 13/08/2010 19:33

We have a Serafina (Fina to family, Serry to her friends).

Love it & it suits her Smile

skyeplusbump · 13/08/2010 19:33
