Any ideas please - we have lots of boys names in mind but no girls names. Any help would be appreciated :)

Calypso - the sea nymph that seduced Odysseus.

CoteDAzur · 12/08/2010 15:33

I wouldn't call Lorelei a "sea witch". She sings so beautifully that men (on boats) are drawn to her voice. That might of course end up with a ship wreck but that would hardly make her a witch Smile

delta

not being flippant but met a lovely little girl named Marina yesterday

Pretty cool character as well.

Dummyhunter · 12/08/2010 10:52

The girl's name Nerissa \n(e)-rissa, ner(is)-

is of Italian origin, and the meaning of Nerissa is "black-haired". From Nericcia. Created by Shakespeare for the name of Portia's waiting woman in "The Merchant of Venice". Also possibly derived from Nereida (Spanish, Greek) "sea nymph" or a variant based on Marisa or Marissa.

Nerissa has 4 variant forms: Narissa, Naryssa, Nericcia and Neryssa.

mmm quite liking this

Not quite Morvah - but certainly Cornwall x Ursula and Lorelei are out apparently a sea witch and the siren that brings doom and destruction on men are not to Daddys liking! Nerissa sounds interesting - off to see what that means.

Thanks everyone - some lovely names here. Particularly love Mara, Cordelia and Meredith - Hubby loves Lorelei. Pearl and Coral are out as other family members are called this and we live in a place with 2 Sennens, a Morven, 2 Jennifers and 4 Morwennas (guess where we live Grin )but am really pleased that there are so many others to discuss. Sandy and Shelley lol!
