I love Octavia! How about Ophelia?

winkle2 · 11/08/2010 15:22

If it helps, a fried of mine has two girls: Matilda and Imogen.

muminthemiddle · 11/08/2010 10:42

I like Jemima best

Um, none really jump out at me but none are dreadful either.

LaDiDaDi · 10/08/2010 20:50

Jemima is my favourite from your list, goes well with Imogen too imo.

KERALA1 · 10/08/2010 20:35

Really really like them all EXCEPT

Lola - stripper showgirl connotations and weirdly popular
Amelie - Abit random if you are not French and again really really popular

Hulababy · 10/08/2010 19:21

Tabitha - not keen; cat like, imagine sneaky, sly
Jemima - not keen;
Octavia (dh doesn't like) - sounds like the car
Clemantine -ok
Lavinia - no,
Lola - a bit too cutsey though sweety, more of a nickname for me
Matilta (dh likes) - my favourite
Amelie - lovely
Lottie (don't like Charlotte though) - nickname to me

Tillyscoutsmum · 10/08/2010 19:21

I like Tabitha, Matilda and Lottie. Jemima is quite sweet as well (but does have duck associations for me). I know Matilda is supposedly massively popular, but we've yet to come across another one in rl (apart from my friend's dog !)

I know a Tabitha nn Tabsy

yellowflowers · 10/08/2010 19:13

I like Clementine though it might go on my list of 'names I would use if I was brave enough'.

frankenfanny · 10/08/2010 15:52

Jemima, Clementine and Matilda go best with Imogen. Though as has been said Tilly is a common pet name (was my cat) so maybe Tilda or Mattie better nn.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/08/2010 14:55

Tabitha will be called Tabby btw, it's only a matter of time. Still like it though.

Imogen and Tabitha, Immi & Tabby. Yep, nice.

Psammead · 10/08/2010 10:18

Tabitha - really nice
Jemima - really nice
Octavia (dh doesn't like) - quite nice, but not my fave
Clemantine - isn't it Clementine? I like it.
Lavinia - not my taste at all.
Lola - Charlie
Matilta (dh likes) - love it
Amelie - like it a lot
Lottie (don't like Charlotte though) - prefer full names.

nooka · 10/08/2010 06:01

My wonderful god-mother was a Lavinia (known as Vin) so I really quite like that, and Livvy is good too.

For me Tabitha and Jemima are Beatrice Potter characters, and therefore really for cats/ducks.

Jemima seems a bit moany (I'm not sure why, but when I read it the "i" seems very strong).

I have Clemency as a middle name, and to be honest I'm not that keen on either Clemency or Clementine, plus Clemmie has to be a really awful nn (and if your dd is sometimes known as "Immie" then Immie and Clemmie doesn't sound good)

I don't like nns as given names, so not keen on Lottie.

Lola has too many bad connotations.

cityangel · 10/08/2010 01:33

Amelie is very nice but wouldn't people mix it up with Emily?

mathanxiety · 10/08/2010 00:02

Mahalia is beautiful.

cityangel · 09/08/2010 23:52

meant Mahalia or Marissa

cityangel · 09/08/2010 23:51

Tabitha - cat
Jemima - not bad (bit of a duck thing going on)
Octavia - posh
Clemantine - clementene orange
Lavinia - Lavi toilet nickname
Lola - too sexy
Matilta - like it but prefer usual spelling
Amelie - love it
Lottie - would assume Charlotte

Much prefer

Thomasina
Juliet
Oonagh
Clarissa
Lila or laila
Harriet
Hahalia
Otilie

KittyTwoShoes · 09/08/2010 22:57

Tabitha - I like it. I don't love it, but I like it.

Jemima - Does remind of Puddleduck, but I still love it. A schoolfriend was Jemima shortened to Mimi, which I think is sweet.

Octavia (dh doesn't like) - I think it's lovely.

Clementine - Like this too, and Clemmy is growing on me.

Lavinia - Wasn't she the mean girl in A Little Princess? Love the name regardless though. My cousin in Lavinia shortened to Livvy; I think it's a nice alternative to Olivia.

Lola - Charlie and Lola is what it brings to mind. Plus I had a cat called Lola. I don't dislike it, but I prefer Laura.

Matilda (dh likes) - Who Told Lies And Was Burned to Death... I really want to like the name, but it just makes me think of that poem.

Amelie - Prefer Amelia. Or Emily. Unless you're French?

Lottie (don't like Charlotte though) - Love Lottie but also find Charlotte boring.

JuneBugJr · 09/08/2010 22:52

You have lovely taste in names. Imogen sounds very classy, and IMO doesn't go with lola or lottie, as they are more like nn, instead of 'proper' names.

I love all of your names, but tabitha, clementine or jemima are my fav's, and don't seem so popular either.

How about violet, or livia.

jellybeans · 09/08/2010 22:39

Tabitha..love it
Jemima ...dislike, reminds me of a doll
Octavia ...bit odd, reminds me of an Octagen
Clemantine...orange?
Lavinia...reminds me of a country or beer name
Lola...dislike
Matilta ...dislike but like Matilda (was it supposed to be that?)
Amelie ...OK
Lottie ...dislike

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 09/08/2010 21:33

LOVE Clementine, Octavia and Tabitha.

Matilda is ok but I know soooo many under 5s of this name in my area (South East).
Not keen on the rest.

BelligerentGhoul · 09/08/2010 17:16

I like Lottie as a nn for Charotte but not as a stand-alone name. I quite like Matilda.

I dislike tabitha, Clementine, Lavinia (really dislkie Lavinia) and Lola. Jemima and Amelie are okay-ish. Quite like Octavia.

Takver · 09/08/2010 17:15

I like all of them but would tend towards Lola as a shortening (for Dolores) rather than a given name just because it gives a more 'grownup' option if she wants it later.

Ditto Lottie - if you don't like Charlotte, it can be short for other names (Carlotta is nice IMO)

Agree that Lavinia, though nice can be shortened to both Lavvie and Vinnie, neither of which are so pretty . . .

ballstoit · 09/08/2010 17:13

Tabitha - not a fan

Jemima - is okay (but dont tell my Dad, he desperately wanted both my girls to be called Jemima!)

Octavia (dh doesn't like) - I love, but think it may be quite a hard name to carry off, also how do you nn it?

Clemantine - a cow's name?

Lavinia - I imagine gossiping on the doorstep in her dressing gown

Lola - I love, or how about Lois
Matilta (dh likes) is this year's Chloe, to of my facebook friends have gone for this in the last couple of months

Amelie - I like, but wouldnt use for the same reason that I wouldnt use Madeline

Lottie (don't like Charlotte though) - I love this, Dh wouldnt let me have it, should have just ignored him
