Help..DH has vetoed all my names!

firefly101 · 06/08/2010 21:35

We have 8 weeks to find a name for DD1, but DH has vetoed:
Beatrice
Cecily
Isolde
Jemima
Juliet
Romily
Tabitha

He likes:
Hannah
Sophie
Abigail
....none of which we can use as they are names of close family and friends.

2 compromise names so far are:
Evie
Jennifer

....but I'm not 100% sure about either of theses. Any ideas for names we will both like?

Thank you, it's scary to think it could be anytime now...or upto 4 weeks away if she's late!

Hope your 20 week scan goes well :)

I know a Lawrence. I doubt DH would like it, he's a PITA! The only name he likes is his own and it's Over My Dead Body if we're using his name!

Hopefully we'll find out the sex at the 20 week scan and then we can narrow it down a bit.

Congratulations on your little girl! Good luck with the birth! Smile

firefly101 · 17/09/2010 18:59

Actually....that's not a combination at all Blush, it just sprung to mind!

firefly101 · 17/09/2010 18:54

I like James too Wanderingsheep. What about Laurence (sp?) as an in between of Lee and Elijah.

OP posts:
firefly101 · 17/09/2010 18:49

That's a good idea, Highlandlass.

Think we have agreed on Juliet now - hurrah!

Wanderingsheep · 17/09/2010 18:49

My shortlist is very, erm short lol!

James (my favourite I think but DH says no!)
Elijah
Lee

And I can't think of anymore!

HighlandlassinLondonshire · 17/09/2010 18:44

How annoying for you...! You should set a rule only 3 veto's each for baby names.

The old school names are lovely. I don't think you can beat a classic timeless name.

What about Evelyn and call her Evie for short?

firefly101 · 17/09/2010 18:06

Thanks, always let them think it was their idea!

We were exactly the opposite, as had agreed on Lucas for a boy before the scan, but stuck on girls names. Do you want to share your shortlist for baby oi and see if we can add to it?

OP posts:
Wanderingsheep · 17/09/2010 17:57

Oh that's great! Good idea to make him think that the name is his idea Wink.

It's so annoying when they veto your names. DH doesn't like any of the boys names I like and I really struggle with boys names. We find it easy to agree on girls names so kind of hoping DC2 is a girl, otherwise it's going to be called "oi!"

firefly101 · 17/09/2010 17:48

A break through :) dh says "what about Juliet?" I said yes that was my suggestion how lovely....

So now think we have decided on Juliet Grace (Grace after my Granny)

phew......dd due in two weeks, lets hope dh doesn't change his mind before then!

gallicgirl · 25/08/2010 20:08

Perhaps I need to try that strategy too Grin

My OH has suggested Erin and Melinda - I am more thank happy for you to use those names!

I like Jenna and Jennifer. How about Anna instead of Hannah? It really isn't used that much but is very familiar.

Good luck with the birth.

firefly101 · 25/08/2010 18:18

Thank you so much they are all brillent suggestions.

So so sorry for my delayed response, I'm so rubbish at the moment, coming home from work and going to sleep. Thank goodness I finish work on Friday for maternity leave (then can be on MNs lots!)

Love the Genevieve with nn Evie idea, am also considering the wait till the baby's here policy and then count on DH to let me choose as I'll have been though labour....

Thanks again x

My DH has a brilliant strategy of saying no to pretty much all of my suggestions. I have been told to wait until the baby is born, then having watched me go through labour DH is likely to agree to anything I ask for.

ValiumSingleton · 09/08/2010 17:33

Sympathies, I love your list! (with exception of Tabitha, and I'd spell romilly with two Ls.) Your husbands is very uninspiring.

ok, so He likes:
Hannah
Sophie
Abigail

His list shows that he likes names that have become totally mainstream. You like names that are a bit quirky. so how about..

Anna, Annie, Anneliese or Nancy instead of Hannah. They are all very familiar but not as popular as Hannah I think he needs names to sound familiar?!

Instead of Sophie, what about Susie? That is very classic but kind of quirky for a baby
Abigail - lots of them all about 11 or 12 I'd say. What about Annabel. Sounds more at home on your list than Abigail.

mathanxiety · 09/08/2010 16:49

I would be put off by the Texas-y ness Smile

Bagpusstree · 08/08/2010 20:28

Jenna was vetoed by my DH as being a porn stars name, apparently the top 3 porn stars are all called Jenna.....Not sure how DH knows that.....

I said her generation wouldnt know, but he said that all the dads would!!!

MrsC2010 · 07/08/2010 22:24

Love Kitty as a suggestion.

4madboys · 07/08/2010 16:44

we have genevieve on our list for baby due in nov :) its one of our fave names.

others we have are

meredith
eliza
felicity
georgina
bonnie
scarlett
hazel
violet
beatrice/beatrix
corinna

mathanxiety · 07/08/2010 16:33

Yes, it's a sort of Jennifer and Evie hybrid Smile that could be quite versatile as a source of nns.

Eva is nice too, and a bit different from Evie but along the same lines. I love Aoife, but maybe if there's no Irish connection this wouldn't be on.

MrClaypole · 07/08/2010 11:33

How about Marianne?

LaundryLyne · 07/08/2010 11:18

A Genevieve could be called Evie for short.

mathanxiety · 07/08/2010 03:04

There are loads of Evies. Loads.

Would you consider Genevieve instead of Jennifer?

How about
Vivienne
Ava
Aveline
Lara
Rachel

lucertola28 · 07/08/2010 01:19

I think Evie is really cute and nice, my niece is called Eve but gets Evie a lot too

Juliet is really nice (pity your dh doesn't like it)

Lucia (Loo-chi-a)

Ella

Katie

Lucy

Molly

Lily

Amelia

Cecilia (instead of Cecily)

Grace

Celeste

Holly

Lucille

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/08/2010 01:12
