Senan - boys name

Hi

What does everyone think of Senan for a boy. Apparently its irish?

lots of sennans here(cornwall) and pirans.lovely names and great that cornish names are aking a come back but every other child is sennon or piran atm!

I know a Sennen (named after the Cornish cove) I think its sweet

There seems to be a real thing at the moment for Cornish families to use "proper Cornish" names - place names too. There are lots of Tristan, Sennen, Zennor, Lamorna, Lowenna, Morwenna, Morgan etc babies around. Think it's quite nice

I like the way it sounds, more than the fact its irish - although my grandfather was half irish, that doesnt really matter to me. Otherwise I would have to use welsh names, because we are welsh.

Elephants, it is pronounced Sennen liked the beach. It is Irish but not very common, if you particularly want to use an Irish name, I think there are lots of nicer ones and if you have no Irish background, then it's a kind of peculiar name to use tbh. It is not common in Ireland, I only ever knew one.

I love it too, and so unusual but still a 'proper' name. We also like Seren (welsh girls name) for a girl.

I think my search for a boys name may be over!

I bloody love it.

A distant relation has just called his wee boy Senan and to me it's like the Holy Grail of Irish boy's names. Strong and masculine with a great story behind it. Individual without being deliberately 'out there' and great on a little boy and a man.

Oh and did I mention I love it??

If it's pronounced Sennen, that's a beach near Land's End. It's not unknown for people to be conceived on it named after it, in Cornwall at least.

If it's pronounced see-nun (as in Kenan) though, that's not so nice.

I think a friend has a Senan in the family for a girl - not sure if it;s the same spelling. I was a bit at first, but like it now I'm used to it
