I really like Eric, it's my DS's middle name actually but as a first name I like it too.

I'd say "yay". It's quite popular over here (France) where the nickname is Rico. All the Eric's I know are great fun as well.

I know a toddler Eric. When he was born I was a bit (quietly, to myself) but now it's really grown on me. I think it could be overdue a revival.

What about Frederick, Eric for short? Frederick is far nicer.
