A friend has just has a little Neive Violet - give me your Neive-related thoughts!

Is it pronounced Nee-v (one syllable)? or Nee-ver (two syllabels)?

It is basically the same as Neve / Niamh or it is a name they have made up (is anyone else callled Neive?)?

Is the poor child going to have to spend their whole life explaining and spelling their name?

Obviously I could ask the first two questions to the parents but thought I'd ask here first!

Ah - I did think but wondered if I was just very boring.

Googling did turn up the Italian town and and I had the same thought as you, BunnyLebowski! I am trying to remember if they were in Italy 9 months ago!

Does look a little like a misspelling of naive, or niece. The "i before e" issue troubles me too .

Their DS is Oscar James which is a lot more straightforward. And their surname is a very common English surname with no spelling difficulties.

Surely there are some Mnetters who think it's a lovely name / have named their DD Neive?

Either a misconceived attempt at Niamh or after the Italian (which would be quite pretty but has the drawback that 95% of people will assume that you aimed for Niamh but missed).

Not an attractive spelling. My dn is called Khera - apparently it's Kiera but I don't think the spelling makes this obvious. She is always having to spell her name out or correct people's pronunciations.

If it is Niamh, why didn't she spell it like that. Or the usual anglicised alternative of Niamh, Neeve.

As it is everyone is going to think your friend wanted to call her baby naive but can't spell.

I only know Neve/Neave/Niamh's never seen it spelt like that before, so have no idea.
