Are you happy with your own name - do you think it dates you?

Mine was very common for my era (70s) but still used sometimes. It's OK but I don't like the fact that I have a 'formal' full name and a nn everyday name. One seems too formal, the other abit nn, and there is a further even shortened nn, would prefer just something which is a name with no shortenings/longer names, hence I gave mine shortened names or ones which can't be shortened.

I'm Simone (pronounced Si mone) I have met one other person, same age as me with the same name but she pronounced it "See-mon" (the proper French way!) Hated it when I was younger, not that keen on it now but it's OK I suppose. Don't think it dates me though. Like what's being said about Katherine and Elizabeth - my Katherine (although not that spelling) is 9, my Elizabeth is 4. Lots of different nicknames they can use as well as the full names too!

I do it like. I'm another Michelle. I can't imagine being called anything else.

I keep hearing people say that it's very 1970s but every other Michelle that I've encountered was born in the 80s.

The only thing I don't like about it is that bloody Beatles song that people insist on singing to me.

I'm an Olivia and 26. It was relatively unusual when I was born, so much so that one of the nurses accused my Mum of making it up.

Now, they are everywhere so I do wonder if I will be seen as 20 years younger than I am in future!

I am lucky though - I was always called Livy which people do still find unusual!

I'm Louisa. I don't think it dates me (though my middle name probably does). I don't think Louisa has ever been really popular, and I think that's why you wouldn't know from just my name when I was born. You often see it on gravestones (which is cheery). I've hardly met any other Louisas - maybe a handful over the years, that's all. I'm not all that keen on 'Lou' as a nn - but most of my family insists on calling me it

I'm Cerys, born '83, don't think it dates me, but it definitely Welsh-ifies me! I like it.

I really don't like my name.
I'm only 30 & most people i hear of who have my name are OAPs.
I don't like shortened versions of my name either.

My name is Kathleen, but everyone calls me Kate. I only use Kathleen on official forms. I'd have prefered it, if mum and dad had just called me Kate, but as I dont use Kathleen it is not really an issue.

I am Michelle which screams 1970's (was born 1979) there were always at least 3 Michelle's in my year at school but havent heard anyone named it in the last 15 years.

DD1 got a very common name (Ellie) and her best friend at school is Ellie too (they are known as Ellie P and Ellie D already!) however DD2 got a fairly unusual name Hattie (she was going to be Jessica or Charlotte but DH mentioned Hattie night before I had her and we kept it!)

I didn't exactly love my name growing up - it was VERY dated and old lady when I had it (named after my grandmother), and even now at 36 I've yet to meet another one my age.

I like it more now though and am pleased not to share it with loads of people. Well, I suppose I share it with loads of babies and toddlers since the trend pendulum has swung completely the other way and it is now v popular - Isobel.

I really like the name Jane - it is so classic and timeless. Very elegant.

I don't mind mine. I'm Julia but mostly known as Ju! I don't think it dates me too badly

I am Cathleen, which I hate, but I am always known as Kate, which I love. It's short, simple, timeless, easy to say and spell, and I think perfect for a woman at any time of life. I love having a name that women through the ages have always had - historical precednet is a good thing!

I'm an Alexandra, most people call me Alex and i love it.

It's one of those names you get in every generation so it's not too dating although i did go to primary school with others.

My name was old-fashioned (fogey rather than wistful) in the '70s, so even more so now. The only people I met as a child with the same name as me were friend's mums etc. It's definitely not due for a revival!

I have a simple, classic middle name which has been mentioned on here, which some people call me accidently without knowing it (I look like a 'XXX' apparently).

Patricia - and I'm only 31. I don't mind it but I think it a 50-60 year old woman's name. I think it sounds nice though, so overall I like it.

I always thought my sisters had nicer names than me, now I prefer mine over theirs.

I like my name - Katy. There were a few of us at school, but I was the only one spelt with a Y. And it's not short for anything. Not sure if it dates me or not, seeing as it's a popular name in various spellings.

When I was younger, I didn't think grown ups could be called Katy, so I thought about insisting being called by my middle name (Jane), but I'm not one of those either

I like my name, now. Its Abigail, and I'm pushing 40, so you can imagine how much I hated it in the 70's and pretended my name was Claire really!

I'm a Sarah, very very common amongst those of us born in the 70's; not so much now.

Used to hate it - it's a very nice name but there were just too many of us - 4 in my class at school, always made me cross to be Sarah lastname rather than a unique first name iyswim. Quite like it now but I did name both my dd's something outside the top 20 for that exact reason.

i dont like mine - im a Victoria. i dont mind Vic. i get vic mostly.

i wish id had my middle name which is Alexandra, i hated it when i was little but i love it now. i should have been Alex.

i saw some interesting variations of Victoria on MN the other week...including Vita. and i quite like Queenie as a nn....dont think id carry it off now though!
